Can anyone please read (or skim!) the following and let me know if you see anything that should be "clarified"?! I greatly appreciate it!!!!!!! (I copied & pasted, so I'm sorry for the formatting issues..)


1) Position: Employee ________________________________ accepted employment from employer Korea Preparation Center (KPC) to teach English Language under the terms and conditions set forth on this contract.

2) Contract Period: The period will be for 12 months beginning on March 5, 2007 to March 5, 2008. This contract may be extended after the contract term if both the employer and employee agree to do so.

3) Teaching Hours: Employee will teach a maximum of 126 actual teaching hours per month. These hours will be confined to 5 teaching days a week, Monday through Friday from 10am to 6pm. Working hours will be scheduled based on the school curriculum.


4) A. Salary: Employee will be paid a monthly salary of 2,100,000 Korean Won for month. Employee will be paid at the minimum rate of 20,000 Korean Won for each teaching period of overtime. Employee will be paid at the minimum rate of 20,000 Korean Won for each hour of orientation training completed prior to March 5, 2007. Attending at staff meetings, counseling with students and other colleges, workshop, and other class related activities are not considered overtime.
B. Payment: The employee�s salary (including employee�s orientation pay) will be paid a month after his or her starting date.
C. Severance Pay: Upon successful completion of the contract, KPC will issue the employee a severance pay equal to one month�s pay of employee�s regular salary, added to employee�s last, regular working month�s pay.

5) A. Duties: Employee will observe the pertinent professional regulations of the school and contribute to its educational enhancement.
B. Dress Code: College professor like attire is needed. No jeans with holes, wrinkled or dirty clothes, and sweat pants are not relevant. No piercing and tattoo must be shown.
C. Behavior: The employee must arrive at school at least 30 minutes before the class. The employee must have prepared the lessons 1 week prior to the class.
D. Teaching Material: Employer will provide all teaching materials. In the case that necessary materials are not provided by the employer, employer will reimburse employee for purchases. The employee must provide a receipt and evidence that the materials are essential for the education.


6) A. Housing and Furniture: Employee will be provided with a single studio accommodation with individual bathroom. The studio is equipped with a refrigerator, a washing machine, a stove and air conditioner and employer will provide a bed.
B. Utility Costs: The employer will pay the rent of the studio and other costs of utilities (monthly) will be the teacher�s responsibility.

7) Holidays: Employee will receive 10 days of paid vacation. Employee will take 5 days in the summer time and 5 days in winter time. Employee will also be entitled to observe all Korean Holidays with pay.

7a) Sick Leave: The employee will be provided with 3 paid sick days a year. Where the sick leave exceeds two consecutive days, the employee must provide the employer with a certificate signed by a medical practitioner. If the employee misses more than 3 days of class during one contract period, his/her salary will be deducted accordingly (Using a prorated method of salary divided by number of working days).

7b) Sympathy: In the event of death of an immediate family member of the employee or in correspondence accidents, temporary arrangements can be made from the employer to excuse the employee from his/her work. These days missed will be unpaid.

Cool Health Insurance: Employer will pay 50 % of the monthly health insurance and the employee will pay the other 50 % of the health insurance cost.


9) Airfare: Employer will reimburse the employee�s cost of air fair to Korea within employee�s first week of arrival to Korea. The school will provide a return ticket at the end of the contract term.

10) Income Tax: Income tax will be deducted at the Korean national rate, which is approximately between 3.3%.

11) Termination: In case of employee�s resignation, employee will provide employer with at least on-month prior notice. The contract will be terminated as of the resignation date. In case of employee�s negligence of the above mentioned duties and regulations, employer, giving 2 weeks prior notice, may terminate the contract. In either case, employee will be paid for the two-week period.

12) Governing language and Jurisdiction: This agreement has been drawn up and has been executed in the English language; and the English language text of this agreement this agreement will govern and prevail over and any translation thereof. This agreement will be interpreted according to the domestic laws of the Republic of Korea. A competent court in the Republic of Korean will have jurisdiction in regard to any dispute or claim arising out of, or in connection with, this agreement.





The undersigned agree to the above-mentioned terns and conditions,
and will act in good faith accordingly.

Pretty standard crappy contract but it doesn't mention anything about;
Pension plan
vacation-make sure its 5 consecutive days so you get both weekends
I'd ask specifics about which national holidays...some give election day
Ask about paper work, prep time...
off others don't...arbor day etc...
