Moscow bans 'satanic' gay parade
Luzhkov: Gay propaganda "unacceptable"
Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov has said he will never allow a gay rights parade in the Russian capital.
Speaking to reporters, Mr Luzhkov described such events as "satanic".
Moscow banned a gay march in 2006, citing the threat of violence. People who ignored the ban were beaten up by counter-demonstrators and arrested.
Gay activists say the ban breaches their fundamental human rights. They say they intend to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.

Not being allowed to have a gay parade breaches fundamental human rights? Are you joking?
I'm all for gay equal rights and gay marriage and the ability for people to be out in the open without persecution or discrimination. I think people should be able to do whatever the hell they want in their private life if it doesn't hurt anyone else. I'm an openminded person and certainly no prude. I have to admit I have only seen one gay parade (San Francisco). I wouldn't call it satanic, but it certainly was vulgar. I can't think of a good reason that kind of blatant sexuality and nudity needs to be expressed on the public streets where children are in the vicinity. |

People who ignored the ban were beaten up, then arrested. I would say that violates basic human rights. Interestingly enough, it wasn't those darn Muslims fault this time~

The gay pride parade can be a very 'in your face' event but Russia ought to respect their right to gather and protest. If it is a 'human rights' issue, I don't know. But Westerners should be appalled at the increase in homophobic rhetoric the world over. |

Why cant gays have a normal parade? Why do they insist on rubbing their filth in our faces? Perhaps if they behaved differently homophobia wouldnt be on the rise. |

Homophobia is on the rise because backwards fools can claim their unwillingness to come to terms with their own gay populations on "cultural differences", as has been done recently in Nepal.
Let the gays be. They aren't trying to convert you or lessen your freedoms. |

I am a libertarian/anarchist, not a lefty. I am against gun control and for states rights, but for abortion. I think on most issues, I am more on the right than the left.

SU, the gay pride parade as practiced in the West is meant to shock people. It is more than mere PDA's. I have zero issues with it taking place, but I don't think it is the same as a guy and a girl making out in public. There is a degree of difference. And there is no need to pretend that there isn't.
And fine. Your a libertarian/anarchist. The abortion thing makes me think you are a Rothbard fan. Me too. That doesn't mean that your muslim comment isn't b.u.l.l.s.h.i.t. Islam is a very real problem in our world, as is homophobia. The two often have points of contact, but not always. |

First paragraph: partly true.
Second paragraph: true.
Thought I'd meet you at least half way~

(numbers are mine)
1. They were beaten up by other citizens, not police. And if you participate in an event which is banned, you must expect to get arrested.
2. See above.
3. What do Muslims have to do with this? |

I would agree with islam as far as extremist islam but, as for "homophobia", there is no such thing. People don't fear homosexuals, they either loathe them, ignore them, or like them. No fear to it. |

1. They were allowed to be beaten, then arrested by police (I'm assuming just after they were beaten).
2. It was banned, but it should not have been. I see you're not a big fan ov civil disobedience. Your choice.
3. Muslims have nothing to do with this. I was being facetious (sp?) about the Muslim anti-gay post by 5eagles.
