I am a centrist, a Canadian style liberal or red Tory. I think there are plenty of rude people on both sides and also racists. I did have a hard time when living in the U.S. South with some closed-minded people who wouldn't tolerate words of warning against going into Iraq that I espoused, but I also had a Republican friend who was trashed by democrats for his views. It is hard to really point, but I feel in areas where people are very religious and traditional which applies to conservative areas more opposing views are not taken well. Russia is a case in point. It was always a traditional, group think place.

they're both idiots and adhere to ridiculous ideas, sometimes for the sake of just not being like "the other".

I must say though, that lefties on this board are prone to more ad-hominem attacks than the righties, who just spout about Jesus or His Eternal Love and put their fingers in their ears singing "Yes, Jesus Loves Me." whenever science or facts come into discussion.

When facts come into play with multiculturalism or the Muslim Debate, the left usually just insults.

....... i guess there are no good multiculturalism songs to hum to while ignoring the obvious.

Wow. I missed that.

Wanna elaborate? I've seen him speak twice and have followed his writing for about a decade now.

Well, I'm a libertarian. Neither left nor right. So I guess you could say:

When libertarians named BJWD are talking with that fat leftist bb, they are more rude than some others.

so you're trying to discredit my post on left or right leaning posting rebuttal TENDENCIES by a single post? Is that what you are ACTUALLY trying to do?

This seems to be part of a greater trend. Some of us write about trends in the world...and then someone comes out, posts one instance where the trend is not the case and the whole of the original argument is made moot by one single (usually irrelevant) contradiction. The smugness in believing that posting one contradiction to a myraid facts and real trends cancels out the two is also obnoxious.

Also, BJWD is certainly no rightist. So your post makes no sense.

Okay, so the way the OP styled this is pretty provocative, but only in a bland and dead-after-20-posts sort of way.

Here's my question. Which side has more resentment?

My uncle is a right-wing nutjob who claims I must be a Bush-hater because I have pointed criticisms of his policies. But at the same time, everything that is bad in the US comes from Carter or Clinton. The man is hopelessly angry and resentful.

On the other hand, lots of cultural leftists (excuse the similarity with D'Souza's new book, who belongs with the right-wing resentful) are completely unable to grapple with the reality of the world themselves, and would indeed be viable candidates for the Bush-hater title.

We have far too many examples of both sides of the aisle on this board.

So, for which side is it more true that they just can't get through the day without venting against the world and how liberals (or neo-cons) screwed it all up?

That's a good point, but I would have to qualify by asking resentment about what?

I deeply resent torture taking places in secret third-world prisons under the auspices of my elected representatives. To throw out a word some would seek to make taboo: I HATE IT.

And I think I echo the sentiment of many on "the Left".

Plus, if you're going to try to quantify resentment, I think many on the left resent "torture taking places in secret third-world prisons under the auspices of their elected representatives" far far far more than the right does the anti-war movement.

Then there comes the moderate concept of "I only dislike 'torture taking places in secret third-world prisons under the auspices of our elected representatives' a little.

That is a point between two extremes, but it's not by any stretch of the imagination some sort of higher ground.

Same thing goes for idea that these deep divisions are some recent development. Consider Hamilton vs. Burr. The duel, not any court case.

I will openly claim the Bush-hater title. But the traditional "You just hate Bush" cliche is not really accurate. That suggests that I have no reason to hate Bush. I have many reasons that I can back up until the cows come home.

Contrarian was the most recent to imply that Clinton was evil. When pressed, he offered cheating on his wife. Honestly, George could bed harlots nightly and it wouldn't really bother me if he weren't trampling human and civil rights.

I didn't start to hate him until he crossed these boundaries, which are a profound obscenity to our constution and our unsought-for status as a world leader.
