If you work in a public school, do you have your own classroom, or do you migrate from class to class? Thanks.

I think it depends on teh school and how many extra classrooms they have. Right now, I migrate, but my school is cutting down by two classes, so I might have my own come March.

Where do you go during your non-teaching hours to lesson plan and such?

I teach at a private school and have my own grade 2 homeroom. I do all prep and lesson plans either on the spare computer in the room or in the teachers' lounge/office.

Interesting question. I have a desk in the staff room with a laptop (provided by the school) connected to the internet and the printer.

In November my school installed a Foreign Language Room and gave the foreign teacher (me) first priority. It has a computer/internet/printer with an lcd projector, screen and a touchboard (very cool for games - the kids control whatever's on the computer by coming up and touching the whiteboard) as well as full-on surround sound (great with a mike, but better for my music when no one is around). I stay there and the classes come to me now (though I have shamelessly kept my space in the staffroom).

That said, anything can happen. There really is no standard, but I haven't heard any horror stories about prep space.

I teach in the English Classroom for grades 5 and 6 which I share with with the 5th/6th grade English co-taecher. I move to individual classrooms for grades 3 and 4. I like walking because its nice to see different environments. Some teachers are really clutter freaks and some are clutter free freaks. Im a clutter freak. Some rooms are bare with nothing, others showcase their students achievments.

I dont really care for my own classroom, but I do wish I had my own private office space. There are grade breakrooms for all staff. I use the 4th grade room because its just across my door. There is a sofa so I like to do power naps after eating lunch. But kids and teachers are always coming in to get supplies there.

I am in my classroom during breaks. It sucks. All the students come to see what you are doing on the internet. They ask a billion questions or just stare at you. They watch you eat and dont really leave you in peace. I only a get 20 minute recess break. Kids are either leaving class or coming in because they dont play soccer outside. So there isnt really an hour where I am alone. An office where I can do power naps in would be great. Im old and weak and still take naps.

My school is fairly small, but crowded and one of the oldest in the city. I think it will be torn down in 5 years, when the rest of the adjoining 3-4 story villas will be torn down to make room for 20+ story apartment high rises. My classroom floors suck. Its just bare wood panels that creak. Dont walk barefoot or else your get splinters. Dont pour water or else it gets absorbed byt the wood and will warp. Kinda gross.

When I first arrived, I thought wow its greats to have a semi private classroom, until I visited other schools and thought wow mine is crap. Not really a great environment for foreign language learning. Im just bitter.

I work at two small schools.

At my three day a week school. I co-teach the regular classes in the English room. My after school classes are in the students' classrooms. I have my own desk, computer desk, computer and printer in the meeting room.

At my second school, the regular English classes are held in the science room and the after school classes in the library. I have to use the library computer there.
