I was bored with my girlfriend on the train, so we started thinking about funny names Koreans could name their kids.
For example, there is a teacher at my school named 하, so we decided he should name his kid 장실...
the other one was Mrs. 조 should name her kid 용희...
(i never said this would be funny)
anymore?

My grandmother-in-law's name is (이)술노미, which is an antiquated Korean name for a spoon. So yes, she's named Spoon. Apparently her parents back in 1910 didn't want a daughter and didn't think girls deserved names, so they just named her after the nearest object at hand.

Yeah, I've thought many times that random vocab looks like people's names potentially at least.....고양이 (cat), 고향이 (home town), 신호등 (traffic light) and many others. Done a random vocab class on this very thing actually.

Remember it was 95 years ago. I think that was a lot more common back then.

i know a guy named "Yeo Duk-seok" -- which, if a bad accent is assumed, sounds to me like "Your D/ck-suck" Shocked

I had a student once named 이락이 (or maybe it was 의 but he pronounced it "ee"). I told him to be VERY careful if he ever goes to the US and to say Rocky Lee and NOT Lee Rocky (with Korean pronunciation)!

a friend of mine took part in a singing contest at hanyang university once. one of the other contestants was called 조용한.. which means quiet. he should have acted accordingly...

i also know a guy who was a katusa, and he told me one of his mates there was called 오유석. imagine what american soldiers would have made of that one!
