Has anyone ever ordered anything from Gmarket? I think I have successfully set up a user account (it took many hours and an online dictionary to figure it out). However, I'm not allowed to transfer money through my bank account. I assume it's because I'm a foreigner. I asked some of my adult students and they said to pay at the bank. Unfortunately, I'm not sure of the exact procedure, and what option to choose on the website.

set up for online banking or use atm
when you transfer by atm, you'll be charged about 1,000 won for each transaction but free or 600 won when using online banking

I think I'd better transfer by atm. (If I want to do that, what option should I choose on Gmarket?) What does it look like in Korean?

Congratulations on doing it yourself!

I haven't paid by bank transfer b/c I have a Check card I use (takes it straight from my bank account) - do you have one of those?

I think Gmarket has bank accts with about 4-5 different major banks and those account numbers are on the site - click on one of the bankbook-y looking icons on your account info page somewhere. (sorry I am off to bed, will check tmrw if u can't find it). This means you may be able to save transaction fee if you are with the same bank(s).

If you really want to, you can switch over to the Global site and pay using a foreign credit card (can't do on Korean site).

Uh, didn't you notice that Gmarket has an English side of the site now?

To pay with visa or "cash card" you have to first register with your bank and they will give you the information to put into a website like gmarket.

However, if you register on the English side, you can just use your foreign visa card.

I did notice the English side, but I didn't want to use my American bankcard. I clicked on the first payment option. 현금결제/G통장(현금잔고). Then confirmed my information. I got to choose which bank I would prefer to deposit money in. They gave me an account number to transfer money to. Yahoo! It only took me like 4 days to make a user account and pay!! LOL.

Actually, I'm wondering about this too. I did register w/ the English site, but I want to pay with a transfer from my Korean bank. I can't figure out how to pay that way on the English site.

Anyone know how to do it?

Krats,

The English site is, if you haven't noticed by the crappy selection of goods available on the opening page, designed for those living in countries other than Korea. It's not like Gmarket was thinking, "ooh, let's set up the English site for the foreigners IN Korea."

Your ID is interchangeable with the Korean site, so if you want to pay using your Korean bank account/card, then you just need to do the payment stuff through there. Actually, using the Korean site (if you can) is much better as you can benefit from free delivery (some sellers offer this) or "coupon" discounts.

Originally I tried to do the same thing as you Krats, I found I couldn't. That's why I did it on the Korean site.

현금결제/G통장(현금잔고).
