If one assumes that the earth is merely a "proving ground" for getting into heaven, why give a flip about what happens to it?

The God of the Bible made this world and everything in it. We are to be good stewards of what He has given us; at the same time since He has put mankind in dominion of every creature, we are not, for the sake of 'environmentalism' to go such extremes as 1) labeling people as the worst invasion of this earth, hurting all in their paths and being generally undesirable for this earth; 2) exalting the status of trees higher than unborn babies, and 3) for political agendas revolving around wealth redistribution, using 'environmentalism' (Kyoto treaty).

The reason God made people was for relationship with Him, a wonderful and joyful relationship - one that allows us to marvel at the complexity and variability of design that we see in this world.

do you have a good percentage of Christians who do all of those things?

Cause I don't. I was raised in a Christian household, am still a Christian, and have been recycling since I was a kid. My parents have never owned an SUV and have always worked for non-profits. I can't even stand the thought of buying bottled water, because even if you recycle the bottle, it takes a lot of crap to make that plastic bottle AND recycle it.

Let's not paint with so big a brush. Hm?

There are plenty of Christians who believe in the End of Times, so I'm sure all of them don't give a christ what happens to the air. There are even groups of Christians who want to rebuild the Temple of Jerusalem, because according to prophecy the Anti-Christ is supposed to announce his presence at the Temple of Jerusalem which has been destroyed and replaced by a Muslim Shrine. So no end of the world as long as the Dome of the Rock remains standing.

Hopefully the majority of Christians don't believe in this stupidity.

I would suggest watching Jesus Camp. A frightening documentary about fundamentalist christians in Kansas and how they teach their kids. The whole program will make your skin crawl.


They teach their kids to not worry about global warming because, a: it's not happening, and b: even if it does happen, God will take care of them.

They tell kids that Harry Potter, if he was real, should be executed as a 'warlock'. At Summer camp the counsellor asked the kids not to tell ghost stories in the dorm at night after lights out because, 'it doesn't honor the Lord'.

They are actively preparing their kids minds for a 'holy war' against Muslims.

I believe there will be a whole new breed of militaristic christian fundamentalists soon. And they may, as some have stated, do whatever it takes to bring about the fulfillment of the prophecies in the Book of Revelations.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

The Bible couldn't have predicted environmentalism. Obviously some Christians care about the earth (but not too much because that would be heathenism) and some don't give a christ because God's going to beam them up to Heaven next week anyway. I think Jesus and all those other people who've been dead for 2000 years can't be held responsible for how anybody interprets their stories today.
