Today a student told me that it often snows in March....
That would make the winter season about 5 months long....
Surely not...!!??
I wouldn't really mind - I love the winter - but my boiler broke down today for the 3rd time, and it's getting pretty tiresome.
So, can someone who talks sense let me know when I can expect Spring...

Man, this winter has been positively tropical compared to the last two winters.
Not that I'm complaining.
I'm sure it does snow in March from time to time, but Spring for me is the best time of the year here in Korea. |

Last year, it snowed the first day of the semester (first week in March) and was freakin cold for a long time.
That said, we had and incredibly long spring and almost no hot/humid weather (compared to most years), and this winter has been the warmest that I remember.
I'm from a State that snow is possible from October to May, so I'll take December to March any time!! |

I remember last winter was really cold, but it ended earlier than the previous ones.
As for snow in March, I doubt it. It probably wouldn't last on the ground through one sunny morning. |

| Aside from the freak Canadian-type weather last year, I seem to recall that March was when things started to get milder. |

| Isn't this the point in the discussion that someone needs to bring up four distinct seasons? |

At the end of last semester the chapter in the book was about different countries and cultures and so forth. I asked my 6 different classes how many seasons Canada has (using Toronto and Vancouver as my Canadian cities when they asked). The closest I got was 3. But 99% of my students went with 3 seasons.
When I told them that they have 4 seasons in those places they thought that either I was lying or I was mis-informed. I had great fun questioning the kids who said "3 seasons" by asking them what season Canada doesn't have. (Usually fall spring or summer.. summer being the most popular answer..) I almost made a post here at the time because it blew my mind that these University aged people straight up wouldn't believe that most of the population of Canada experiences four distinct seasons.
Seasons are fun here. I'm moving to a new Uni in Seoul though.. I expect they will be a little more knowledgable there.. maybe.. |

I dunno, but the biggest snow I seen here was in late Feb 2002. Started at 7 in the morning on a Tuesday (I think) and just kept going. No high winds, not a blizzard, but by midafternoon the boss got on the phone and told the moms our buses couldn't get to them to bring the kids ...
Snow Day. Very nice. I'm from California, so I'd never had one before.
As I recall, I bought a bottle of Chivas from the convenience store, went home and curled up with a good book ...
Sometimes winter is good to you. |

| Usually just jan and feb are real winter, after that, it's up to the vagaries/vicissitudes of the year. |

Actually, the other day I was joking with a korean co-worker and one of my advanced student, that something is wrong--I came to Korea for the four seasons: spring, summer, fall AND winter. But I was only half-joking. Seriously, when is winter going to start. If there's just three season... I'm going to be pissed-off. |
