Today I got my UK passport by courier.
I want to get a secondary school licence in the UK(thinking Brighton or Bournemouth so that my K-wife can get a marketing position)
If anybody could answer the following questions I'd be most appreciative
1,A bank for a deposit in pounds(like City bank,HSBC,which is better...)
2,A good spot to do a PGCE on the south coast
3,Recent Korean overseas student going to the UK stats
4,Where to make accommodation enquiries
Thanks very much to anyone that can make a helpful suggestion.
Cheers~~ |

Lots of questions!
my 2pence ...
I thoroughly recommend Brighton as a place to live. It's beautiful, lively, cosmopolitan.... It's truly fabulous! (and gay!) But, very expensive to rent privately.
I have many friends who have done/are doing PGCEs at various Unis... I can ask them for advice for you... but which Uni to choose depends on what subject you want to teach????
I have heard (I'm not 100% sure) that Natwest do not charge to receive international transfers.
When you choose a Uni, they will point you in the direction of places to look for accommodation...
www.gumtree.com for renting/jobs etc... |

Hello
Go to www.gttr.ac.uk This is where all the universities take all their students from. You have to apply on line. It's quite complex, needing a personal statement and references. All the UK banks are Ok. I'm with Barclays and I've never had any trouble with them. Halifax are offerring a really big overdraft now 2750!
There are so many Asian students going to UK universities now. Huge huge numbers. I'm going to UEA in September and that has a huge Asian intake. Southampton does and I'm sure Bournemouth and Brighton will too. Just ring up the Uni's if you want to know. I'm sure they get that kind of question all the time. And the University can usually assist with accommodation as well. They usually have private rented lists.
Hope that helps

Bournemouth is where my little brother did his masters. It's a great town (quite a lot of 'posh' people though..) . Nice beach, lots of good restaurants and bars. Also a lot of Koreans. I visited my brother and was surprised to see signs in hangul for hagwans and stuff. My brother actually had a Korean girl as a house-mate there for a few months.
I've only visited Bournemouth for a coupla days but it seemed like a rocking town. And it has a bi t of a Korean community too. Kinda expensive though.. but all of the UK is. |

What subject are you wanting to teach? The government run a scheme called the GTP, which is 100% school based, it takes a year and you get paid a wage. I trained in Primary, where places are few, but secondary, especially science and maths should be easier.
Good pgce places are pretty competitive, and they like you having some kind of UK school experience to talk about in an interview.
If I can help anymore, shout.
(I thought Bournemouth was like a holding pen for old people waiting to die...) |
