Hello

I am deciding on a six month contract in Suwon and I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of the place. Is it boring/ conservative/ good shopping/ do they speak much English/ are there many bars and clubs to go out to?

I would really appreciate anything any one can tell me about the place.

Well there are some nice places around the station, but it really does depend on where you live in Suwon. Yeongtong used to be a good area, and Wauri, the area that I used to work in, has many of the uni teachers drinking there. After 2 years i was itching to get out back to the joys of Seoul.

But that's just me. I am sure other people feel different.

ps Stay away from Byeongjeom. It reall does suck the will to live out of you.

I just moved here to suwon as well. I live in Ingye-dong. Where exactly is Suwon station and the bus terminal? I live like 2 blocks from a big night club, two department stores/malls, HomePlus, Outback Steakhouse, TGI Fridays, two Starbucks, and more Norabangs/bars than I can count. All of this is fine and dandy but I need to know where the transportation places are, I want to go back to the town I used to live in to see my friend and the former foreign teacher doesn't have a clue where the bus terminal is. I'm at the point where I'm going to catch a taxi and just say bus tehminal and have them take me there (which I realize isn't the safest thing in the world and could be potentially very expensive).

Can either of the previos responders help me out?

My boss had told me there was an E-mart but she didn't say where. She just drove me to the HomePlus, though she was nice to get me signed up with the point card for HomePlus, which is nice. The last time I lived here none of the stores would let me sign up for the point cards since I was a foreigner. All around I think I am at a better school and definately have a better boss.

Ingyedong is the best of all the places in Suwon. I always had a good time there, especially along the rsquare where all the bars are. Espcecially the ice bar, where you get to throw the glass at the semi-nude statue to win prizes.

The Ice Bar sounds like a helluva good time. I guess I have another place to find and check out. My best friend from the States is coming for a visit in June and I need to know where to take her and show off the town.

Keep the info coming please I need to start making a list of places to go .

Near Suwon Station, there is the place called Sky Bar, which is quite well known. Ive had a good time there.

I've lived in suwon 3 years. The people are hard headed about speaking english. I have been to other cities where people at least tried. I would stay away from teaching in Yongtong. The rich are hard to please there. If you want a tour...let me know. Need a bus number reference...let me know.

Thanks for your posts. I think I may be teaching in Yongtong, so hopefully their not too spoiled, maybe even willing to learn! That would be nice. Shame about Suwon people not wanting to speak english. My Korean is non-existant. The bars sound like crazy good fun. How do you chuck a class at a statue? Are there any clubs in Suwon? I heard of a Hip Hop club that was supposed to pretty good.
