For some reason this worries me more then the bomb plots.
I now think it is time the UK stopped pissing around and stated "If you plan to, or commit a murder you will face the death penalty"

| Yes, that's the best way to stop suicide bombers. |

| They should bring it back, but only as long as they post videos of the executions on the internet. |

I am not sure that the death penalty is what they need to do.
Deportation and restricting their immigration might work a bit better. |

You must be a troll. Killing kids as young as that is obviously wrong no matter what they did. |

| If it were brought back you'd get the same old stories of innocent people being put to death as.....which was how hanging in the Commonwealth was cast aside before. |

You wont get any arguement from me regarding the lack of severe punishments handed down by the British courts.
Regardless of the death penalty, life sentences in the UK will probably not amount to more than 10 years if the convicted gets time off for good behaviour. |

A bit off topic. This reminds me of this. The British courts don't really seem to enforce heavy punishments. This English man killed his Korean wife and hid her dismembered body parts in a fridge. He was sentenced to 5 years of jail time. It seems most of the related articles are filled with his own possibly one-sided claims. Of course, a dead woman cannot speak for herself. Maybe the wife was a really bad woman and the guy was in fact a poor victim for long who accidentally killed his mean wife and then cut her into 9 pieces and then fled to Japan for a while. Who knows. Does this sound fair?

No, it doesn't sound fair, but presumably the coroner's report confirmed the cause of death was a single punch, which corroborates the man's story. That would make it manslaughter aggravated by the grisly way in which he tried to cover it up. Not murder.
I agree that 5 years still seems light, but without knowing the ins and outs you can't say for sure whether the judge used their discretion advisedly or not - assuming they were allowed some discretion in sentencing. There are certainly hundreds of appalling stories about how out of touch British judges are with public sentiment. My impression is the law unjustly values property more than persons too.
However, why are you singling out British courts? I'm sure we could find plenty of cases in Korea where the courts let someone off lightly. |
