For my new job when I leave K-Land I need proof that I have not committed any crimes during my stay.
Has anyone got a copy of their police record from the Korean police or know of something similar?
If so, how did you go about it. I am based near Seoul.
Thanks

Hey,
I just posted a similar question 15 minutes ago except I'm looking to get an Australian criminal history check while in Korea not a Korean criminal history check.
Anyway I might have an answer to your question. I went to police headquarters today and was directed to the "Foreigners reporting a crime" section where they spoke English. At first they misunderstood what I was wanting and gave me an application form for a Korean criminal history report. That's not what I'm after but if that's what your looking for, just head to the closest police headquarters or big police station and ask for the form. They had English versions stuck to the table where I was today (Uijeongbu Police station). |

That's great man. I live in a city in the sticks and I don't think we even have a police station.
Thanks for the info.

Korean Criminal Record Check
Local Requests in Korea:
Koreans and Non-Koreans should visit their nearest police station and request a Criminal History Information Record (CHIR) [Bumjoi Gyung-ryuck Jaryo Hoibo-seo; 범죄 경력 자료 회보서]. One has to bring an ID such as a passport or an alien registration card in person. Near the embassy, the Namdaemoon police station (Scientific Investigation Team tel: 02-777-0795) provides the service within a day, but the processing time could be different depending on the police station you contact. There is no fee for the service.
Overseas Requests:
Overseas applicants should request their Criminal History Information Record (CHIR: 범죄 경력 자료 회보서) through the nearest Korean Consulate General or Korean Embassy. (This is highly recommended as it is normally the fastest way to obtain the CHIR.) |

I had to do something similar for my prospective employer. I got the criminal background history report fairly quickly at a major police station, but had to speak Korean to get it. If you can't speak Korean, just write 범죄 경력 자료 회보서 on a piece of paper. Then they will help you quickly.
No idea where to find this info though. |

I live out in the sticks too. I went with a Korean friend in September (I think) cause I needed to do something for my Canadian crim check. They misunderstood and ran a Korean criminal check. It was done at my local police station, not even the main police station. I sat around for about thirty minutes while they processed me. No charge. |

First hand experience. Had to do it for my wife's visa application to North America (Canadian and US visas).
The embassy refered to is the Canadian embassy. |

Hey Poet
Did they give you some sort of report to take away?
Was it in English or Korean?
Did it look official?

If you do a search for the National Police website in your area, they have all the info there regrading checks. THe Jeollabuk-do has, I've gotten info from there. |

I made a local request at the Bundang Police Station(office?) at Yatab.
I used this for the criminal record check for Seongnam City Education Board.
It took approx 30 minutes.No charge.No hassles.
It's all in Korean and it was stamped.
How you'd use it outside Korea I don't know.Get a certified translated copy made at consular services perhaps(if they offer that) |
