This morning I took a taxi with all my stuff in it from one spot (near Noksapyeong) to another spot (up the hill in Haebongchon). I left something very valuable in the trunk.. Grey taxi, white sign on the roof. Ajashi driving. Does anyone out there have any clue as to how I can locate my lost goods? Someone mentioned to me that there is a website that actually acts as a lost & found for things lost in taxis in Seoul... I haven't been able to locate it yet, if it exists.
I had a Korean friend call up a dispatcher and they sent out a message to all taxis.. I put up signs (in hangul) at both my pick up and drop off spot.
I'm pretty bummed about this.. Any suggestions as to what I can do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Oh, no! I feel for you. I really don't know what else you could do, besides what you have been doing. I worked with a dude in 2004 who lost his digital camera in the backseat of the taxi one day, and the next day it was his wallet. Two days in a row! He got the wallet back from some ajosshi who found it, his stuf was still inside. The camera was gone for good and he had to buy a new one. |

We left our digital miniket camcorder in a cab about a month ago...several calls to dispatchers, a trip to the local police department (to fill out some forms), and still nothing. In our case, the next person in the cab could've taken it, as it was in the back seat. I hope you have more luck (and you should), since your lost article was in the trunk.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you (and our camcorder...) |

About a year ago I left my cellphone in a taxi. I called it up about 1 minute after I got out of the taxi and repeatedly for the next hour.. dude never answered it.
A coupla days ago I did the same thing again. Didn't notice until 5 minutes later when the taxi driver came into the bar he'd dropped me off at and gave it to me. He refused a beer.
Another friend of mine broke her digital camera so she bought a new one. Two days after she'd bought it she washed it along with her clothes. So she bought another camera the next weekend. She took lots of pictures.. then promptly left it in a taxi never to see it again. Silly girl. |

That lost114.com website appears to be absolutely useless. It says "...nothing has been found in the last 2 years."
On a related note, a co-worker of mine lost her brand-new Mac laptop in a taxi a couple weeks ago... Bad enough to lost the elecronics, but she had all her work for her Master's degree on it - with no backup. *Poof*.

Two times lost stuff in taxis, two times got it back.
First was the phone. Called the driver, he brougt it back but asked for 10,000 for his time and lost fares (cool enough, I paid.)
Second was my book bag, with wallet inside. Somebody, either the driver or later passenger, dumped it in an alley. A local shopowner found it, tracked down my school off the the ARC and called my boss. I went over to her shop and traded it for a crate of jeju oranges.
So, how do you get it back? Faith in someone doing the right thing. |

I know everyone has probably lost something at least once in his/her life, but how in the world can someone be dumb enough or maybe sleepy enough??? to lose a brand new laptop in the back of a taxi?????????? I treat my laptop like it's a baby and it never even leaves the house in the first place........The worst thing that ever happened to me was when I "thought" I had my purse when I got off the plane in LA a few years ago. I got over to the other side of the airport, noticed it was missing, wnet back to where I'd gotten off the plane, got my purse back, with 1500 big dollars gone!!! All I could do was cry my eyes out, get on the plane to Incheon with 200 bucks, and vow to watch my stuff and double check like crazy. That's right! Look after your stuff folks!!! |

| My entire life I've made it a routine to do a patdown whenever I get out of a taxi. Wallet, keys, phone, camera, and a quick scan of the back seat. It's a 3-second habit that has saved my goods on more occasions than I care to count. |

I too, am overly cautious about my belongings. As a result, I rarely lose them, which is good.
However, my Girlfriend is notoriously lacking in this department, and frequently loses things. I get frustrated because I can't understand how she can't keep track of her stuff. Of course, as everyone knows, in the end it was my fault anyways so I get blamed. |

Lost my passport last weekend.
Traced back all places i've been to in those few days, but noone could remember finding it. About to report it to cops when during lunch, the admin girl told me that someone at Lotteria found it and dialed them.
Went back to the Lotteria and they returned it to me. 3rd happiest day of my life since i dont want to get 'stuck' in Korea. |
