Hi,
I have less than a yrs experience teaching, yet I landed my current job in a High school and it pays 2.3mil. I've been here for 3 months now and just told my supervisor that I'm probably going to resign and go work in Seoul or Gyonggi somewhere.
After some searches and phone calls I've realised I almost certainly have to take a big pay cut if I want to work in a High/Middle school up in Gyonggi/Seoul. I have no relevant teaching qualifications so its 2.0mil. Non-negotiable. Is my current salary really so unusual?
Stay or go, I cant make up my mind on this one. The job is fine, but I dont have any friends in this town or at the school. But then again, I get to f off from here on weekends and meet my girlfriend.
I don't know why I'm writing this on here. Hoping for a magical solution I guess. Oh, by the way, I live in a place known as Hapdeok-eup. |

2.3 is pretty good for one year of experience. Honestly if your only reason for leaving is to be closer to Seoul you should think about it. You made a promise to work a year. Things happen and there may other reasons, but I think you should stay. You might be able to find a job up here for as much if you look hard. I would have a better reason to leave though. |

I can only echo what M.Dave says: it would be much better for you and your school if you can stick out the year you are contracted to serve. It is winter time and people are less outgoing, maybe once the warmer weather comes people will come out of hibernation and you will find it easier to meet other people and make friends. |

It's simple math. What is 300,000 won worth to you? To some, that would be a fortune, and to others, insiginificant. Plus, you'll spend more money in Seoul.
If you like your school, you shoul stay. Finding a job you don't hate is half the battle here. The devil you know versus the devil you don' t . . . . |

I'd agree with the previous posters. Having an enjoyable time in Korea isn't so much about location (although this is important), it's about the right job. A happy stress-free job as compared to hagwon hell can make all the difference as to whether you stick out the year and want to stay longer. |
