Hi, I'm in Seoul now and seeking employment. I have no teaching experience. I'm 24. I think I'm handsome. And i've volunteered with children before. I have all the neccesary requirements to work legally. So what should i expect for hours, both in the school and actual teaching. Pay it looks like 2-2.2 seems where they want me to start out. It seems that there are standard benefits; single furnished housing, airfare, 1/2 medical, 2 weeks paid vacation. What else should i be expecting?
Thanks,
Jared |

If you're young and good looking, that's all the qualification you'll need in Korea aside from having a degree. You won't have any problem getting 2.2 or more. |

Handsome is what other people think you are, your own opinion might not influence them much. It doesn't hurt but I think you'll make some observations that show it's not a universal requirement. Post a picture with your resume (worknplay.co.kr is a good place to start)...if you don't people will assume you are some deformed freak.
Also, being fat, older than 30, looking ethnic (i.e. not caucasian), unattractive, ect...could hurt your prospects. Post a professional-looking photo that shows you as happy and approachable. I was told that one of my photos made me look "a little unfriendly".
I've been told I'm handsome, but for the next school I've been discreetly asked to lose some weight. Feh. |

actually this is a requirement for many of korea's university positions, and i have been turned down by two for being too 'young' (and handsome) (their words). the argument that you have to be under 30 and handsome is tenuous at best. if you want to be a performing hagwon monkey then, yeah, the requirement is under 30's and handsome (which i am by the way), but for many of the better and high paying jobs out there, the older you are (and balder you are) the better. |

Me
What about hours? I'm getting a lot of things that want me to be there 8 hours a day or more, which i don't understand because i've heard 25-30 teaching hours is normal?

It sounds like you have a typical offer. What you want to know is if they're good to their word. Talk to current and former teachers. |

You're a brave man for posting your photo here.
Especially one that's so conveniently avatar-sized. |

LOLLLL!!! Literally.
Typically hakwons have more teaching hours, and public schools have less (but you still have to be at the school for most of the day). I'm sure you'll do fine, regardless of what's on your resume. |

Okay, well...now that the poor guy's drawn a big target on his forehead...ladies, IS he handsome?
I'm not too hard on the eyes, but why invite anonymous online scrutiny...this isn't always the nicest crowd. |
