I saw "open range" a few days ago

I am not really into westerns but I gave it a shot and to be honest I really liked it
I can't remember ever seeing it advertised in 2003 when it came out

Just wondering if you can name any good movie you saw that aren't well-known?

I like watching movies I know nothing about and getting a pleasant surprise by the quality of it

I never hear anything about Chocolat despite Johnny Depp being the new "it" boy of Hollywood, but...

It is probably one of my all time favorites EVER. It's just...perfect. I wouldn't change anything. In fact, Spring/Easter is coming so it's about time for another viewing. Very Happy

And Memento: I never saw a preview and the only thing I knew about it was what I read in a short review: guy with bad memory tattoos himself with reminders. The review said it was good, so I decided to check it out. I was quite impressed, especially by the originality of the script.

I've actually stopped reading movie reviews because they usually give too much of the plot away. I prefer to just try to skim headlines and whatnot for a general idea of if it's supposed to be good or not.

I haven't seen it in ages but I liked Cutthroat Island when it came out. Kate & Leopold remains my favourite Hugh Jackman movie (director's cut only - the theatrical version was awful). I loved him as Leopold and Meg Ryan is her usual adorable self although those Joker lips sort of detract from the film. I also liked Local Hero and Into The West (the 1992 one about the Irish tinkers, not the more recent one). There are lots of SRK films I like that aren't well-known to American audiences but were blockbusters in India.

deadpan, witty, sad, brilliant. i love this movie, despite the fact that it's so toronto.

amazon women on the moon.
a whole bunch of people you've probably heard of acting in a low budget, mel brooks-style comedy. freaking hilarious. best with drugs.

brazil.
directed by terry gilliam, probably my favourite movie of all time. a disturbing look at the future, big brother on lsd. makes me laugh and cry, usually at the same time.
i love this movie so much we used the music for our wedding march (kate bush' rendition of 'brazil' as we walked down the aisle, a samba version after we got hitched). good thing my wife's got good taste in movies too!

Local Hero is a great choice, as would any early Bill Forsyth film - That Sinking Feeling, Gregory's Girl, or Comfort and Joy. All underseen.

But I would nominate Housekeeping, his other masterpiece, with Christine Lahti as a quirky woman who returns to Idaho to take care of her two nieces. It's based on a novel by Marilynne Robinson of the same name that was recently voted by her peers as one of the best novels of the last 50 years. In this case, the film lives up to the book.

As a matter of fact, I returned to this thread thinking about "Amazon Women on the Moon."

A few years ago I saw the movie "Groove Tube" which I was going to recommend on here. It's a '70s sketch comedy movie apparently similar to Amazon Women. Unfortunately I can't find a way to see either movies here in Korea. Anyone have any suggestions? I already tried Isohunt and neither is on there.
