Any other High school teachers frustrated by the lack of progress their students make? Most of mine cant say more than a few words in English and dont try to either.
Its so tough trying to have productive interaction with students when there's about 30 in a class and you only see each class once/twice a week.
Sometimes the lack of ability and progress makes me feel like I must be a crappy teacher. |

I definitely know what you're talking about. I work at a combined middle / high school and the high school curiculum is far worse. But if you stick with it you will see some improvement. The best evidence is when you hear students responding with things that they could only have learned from you. Doing some extra work with the few keeners can also produce some real progress. |

i'm frustrated as well. i can tell i've done some good, and i'm sure you'll see that if you look harder.
but we're also in such craptacular situations-- we see them once a damn week! Korean pedagogy is dated! the students are friggin exhausted from all the forced study time! no proper holiday time!
my boyfriend asked a co-teacher, "when do these kids get to be kids?" but the question was totally lost on the guy. |
