|
|
I went to a benefits seminar last weekend and I found out that even NG soldiers can fly Space-A, which is cool because;
1. I don't need to buy a ticket.
2. I can fly into Osan instead of going into Inchon.
I know it can take "a lifetime" to get on the list, but it would be cool....
Anyone here ever used it before and if you did, what was your experience like? |

good luck, first off are you sure you (NG) can leave from OCONUS? Not sure if you're allowed to bring anyone with you, but I don't know if that's allowed either OCONUS. Also, you've got to be there at Every flight leaving, its not like you can just sign up and have them call you 30 minutes before hand. I guess you don't have to worry about missing leave or anything so you should be good on that front.
It would be Free, not Cool
12 hours on a plane wearing ear plugs and sitting in web seating doesn't seem that cool to me |

Very dated information to follow:
When I ETS'd back in 1995, I went on terminal leave and used Space-A a lot for about a month. At that time, NG couldn't use Space-A for overseas flights, just CONUS. Maybe that's changed. I flew a lear jet from Korea to Japan, and a new C-17 (at the time) from UK to the US. The combat landing in North Carolina was an experience! I didn't have any lengthy wait times which was good. Really depends where you want to go. If you want a space-a into Hawaii, you 'll have to wait. Alaska, in winter, no wait. Take advantage of ot while you can, it's a great perk! The C-5s are great because they have a passenger deck, usually, I think... |

As I said, I just went through a benefits briefing last weekend, I am certainly eligible to take Space-A OCONUS.
All reserves (including NG) are catagorized now as "M-day" soldiers, meaning that they can be mobilized anytime like the active army. So, I get almost the same benefits as Regular-Army, including Space-A and chances to get a reservation at the Dragon (sweet!....).
All I need is a 2-week window as to when I plan to travel and a leave form (signed by my Company CO) that states when my "leave" begins and "ends".
Did they totally stop the regular airplane flights out of Osan? I read awhile back they did, but then how do people PCS?
I'll bet Mr. MacFarland will have a hell of a time trying to leave then, since he can't walk outside the gate without a police officer looking for him... |

Incheon
I wouldn't be surprised if the K government realized the amount of $$ they could make if they made the u.s. buy tickets for all its service men into and out of korea. |
