Another question,
Where can I get a Hangul word processor that runs on window XP (English version)? Since I will be in Korea for two weeks, I would prefer buying one at a store than ordering it online and waiting for it to be delivered to my parents' place.
Has anyone used Hangul word processor before? Do you have any problem converting hangul files into microsoft word or word perfect and vice versa? |

Hangul Word Processor is not very good (in the opinion of most people who have used it AND who have used Word) and its popularity in Korea is due to nationalism more than quality. However, use whatever floats your boat. . .
As to your questions. . . I've converted Word files to Hangul no problem, but converting Hangul files to English Word wasn't so easy. I think that converting Hangul files to Korean Word is no problem.
I just posted a great place to buy software on a different thread, but it's apt here, too. Go to the tunnel between #4 line Shinyongsan station and Yongsan market and look for the large pieces of paper with software lists hanging on the walls. They should have Hangul and Office 2003 (which would include Korean Word) for reasonable prices. |

Thanks beaver,
I know Hangul is not the best word processor for English speakers. My problem is 99.9% of my clients are using Hangul, instead of microsoft word or word perfect, particularly more so with the governmental clients. And they refuse to take any finished project in microsoft word.
So, are you using the latest version of Hangul and actually running on windows XP (in English)? |

| Nope. I tossed my copy of Hangul a long time ago. . . Anyway, you can find Hangul anywhere in Korea and it works (should work) on English XP just fine. If it doesn't, go to the tunnel and buy a copy of English XP with the full Korean service pack (three CDs total, I think). That'll do it. |

| You could always use word and save it in .rtf format. Hangul and most word processors will read that format. |

Okay... A Korean computer repair guy installed English Windows XP Professional on my computer. The guy said that you can't type Hangul on English XP Professional, which I knew wasn't true. I went to Control Panel/Regional and Language Options/Languages, and clicked on "Install files for East Asian Languages". A window opened up that says
You chose to install the Chinese, Japanese and Korean language files. This will require 230 MB or more of available disk space. The files will be installed after you click OK or Apply on the Regional and Language Options dialogue box
So I hit "OK" and it starts installing but then it says I need:
cplexe.exe from the Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 CD
Does anyone know where I can get that? The computer guy doesn't have it. |

Assuming your XP copy is legal XP service pack 1 can be downloaded from the Microsoft update site.
Try that. If it doesn't install, you'll need the hackable version of XP. |

I have english xp on my computer, with hangul keyboard. My problem is that i can't use the korean on it. How can i type korean on my keyboard. I tried going to install other languages and it already had a check mark next to chinese, japanese, and korean language files.
any help would be great thanks |

Left click on the toolbar and go to the toolbars option (probably the first one). Under toolbars, select Language Bar. You should have a nice little Korean Tao symbol, the letters EN or KO, the letter A, and the Korean hanja letter for 한 pop up. On the far right there'll be a little triangle (denoting an arrow, indicating more choices). Click on that and choose Settings. See if Korean Input System (IME) is there. If not, add it with the add button.

Beaver I tried what you suggested but it didn't work. when i left click on the tool bar at the top of te page nothing happens. When i right clich I don't get any options for the tool bar. when I right click on the task bar at the bottom i get a tool bar option but when i go to it it doesn't offer and languages. When i left click on the task bar i get nothing. Do i have to be in any specific programmer. I'm I doing something wrong. Is there anyother way to do it.
By the way thanks for you advice. I really appriciate that you are trying to help.
