I've never been a big fan of Korean sportsmenship. That goes all the way back to the 2002 World Cup. I found it quite irritating to see Ahn Jung Hwan do his speedskating gesture after scoring in protest of the Korean who was disqualified from his medal prior to that. These were two different events and it was out of place. I was also always disappointed with the way the fans always seemed to be oblivious to the poor calls that seemed to go their way more often than not in 2002 and then turn around and bitch about it in 2006. At least see it both ways. And if you've seen any of these youtube clips, terrible demonstrations of sportsmenship, behaving like little children, http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bad+manners+korea+&search=Search
And just recently you may have read this story on the Korean Times http://times.hankooki.com/lpage/200702/kt2007020218122853460.htm
and it all just gets a little bit tiring. If you haven't read it, after winning silver medals, the women's speedskating relay team stood up on the podium holding the sign ``Mount Paektu is our territory'' , with the whole games taking place in China no less. I mean show a little respect. I would expect as much from the men here, but the women. Gees.

If you mean there are some immature fans who don't see things fairly, then I can wholeheartedly agree. But if you give us a link to a few vids showing bad sportsmanship shown by some Korean athletes posted on youtube by most likely racist Japanese whose biggest joy in life is to gather anything to badmouth about Korea (no need to be nitpicky and argue Koreans are not one 'race'. I know you know what I mean), then it begins to stink. I guess we can pick a good number of ugly and funny incidents by English or American (or whatever national) athletes in history in that manner, no?

Speaking of bad manners, does anybody have a link to the video where George Bush, Sr. (while he was president) puked in the lap of his Japanese host sitting next to him at a formal dinner?

Stay away from the fugu, George!!

Or the one where Latrell Spreewell leaped over his teammates to try to strangle his coach?

Or the one where Dennis Rodman during a basketball game kicked a courtside cameraman in the pee-pee?

Or any of John Mcenroe's outbursts?

Or of coach Bobby Knight throwing chairs across the basketball court?

Or of any baseball pitcher who intentionally beaned a hitter (or any hitter who susequently threw a punch at a pitcher)?

Bad sports are just chumps. People who act like chumps on behalf of their country just bring their country down. But I do gotta' admit that its really irritating having to live in this country and see that kind of thing.

Sportsmanship is not an Asian thing, definitely not a Korean thing.

It's all about winning. If you lose, your nothing, so consequently you get boorish incident after boorish incident from Korean athletes and fans.

And Koreans complaining about Japan posting stuff is hilarious. I've never seem such a bunch of people who can't move on, or like having that giant Japan chip on their shoulders. Move on Korea, you've milked your hardships for far more than they were worth.

*and thank your lucky stars you were colonized by Japan. Imagine if China colonized you, you would still be living in mud huts and burying cats in pots under your houses.

O.K.

Eh? It's O.K. to identify poor sportsmanship, but when someone shows Koreans acting like poor sports, then that 'begins to stink'?

Sorry sports stink, sport.

Sure, some people don't have a good grasp of it. But it's funny you say it's (inherently?) not an Asian/Korean thing. Here's some very sad recent news.

Police officer killed in riots; all Serie A and B matches suspended

This kind of riots ever happens in Korea at least? What about the racist chants by some English soccer fans and hooligans?

"Koreans complaining about Japan posting stuff is hilarious"..? Oh, you mean some Japanese netizens. It's just kinda irritating to come across them. Move on? What are you talking about? Are you talking about some history stuff here? What has it to do with this? Oh, since it's a matter between Koreans and Japanese, let's automatically sing "move on Koreans! Move the f--k on?!" And thank you for the great insight about colonial history.[/url]

It's more about the bigotted video posters. Check what they say on the comment.

Yes, exactly. Move the f--k on. If I have one more ajumma tell me how her hatred if Japan is justified and that we don't understand, I will vomit. There are far too many haters in this country. You pass that hatred on to your children and their children, until you barely can recall what you hate, but just revel in the hating. It's pathetic and it sickens me when a 5, 6, 7 year old in Korea, hearing "Japan" feels the need to let lose his "feelings" of hatred towards Japan. How the christ does a 5 year old learn how to hate Japan? Give me a f--king break. It all rings so hollow when your governments were only too happy to take reperations, technology, anything, over 60 years. No matter what Japan does, it will never be enough for Koreans, this I know with certainty.

I won't disagree with that, but also turn it around and say Americans are no better, especially when it comes to sports.

Man the thread title is misleading. I thought it was going to be a good idea for like maybe a waygookin flash mob or a campaign to increase awareness about Liancourt Rocks, Canada's Rightful Land.

Instead, just another boring, ironically racist post. Koreans are poor sportsmans, boo freakin hoo. I guess you've never watched the NBA.

china is a threat to the US politically, economically and militarily. china is growing.. we all know that... but also.. they r a huge threat. lets remember that its still a communist country and has a strong million man military. only a dumbass would think china is passive and that they r friendly. kudos to the girls.
