Snow Patrol (who will be playing at the Pentaport Rock Fest) are pretty good. They have a new album, Eyes Open (2006) and they have a killer mix online called The Trip (2004).

You can find it at allofmp3.com for a whopping 2 bucks. That is until Russia declares itself USA's *beep* and takes it down...

Cheers for that great advice all round - The Trip is great.

Fat Beats & Bra Straps: Hip Hop Classics- Various Artists
Fat Beats & Bra Straps: Battle Rhymes & Posse Cuts- Various Artists
Fat Beats & Bra Straps: New MC's- Various Artists

A three volume series of rap and hip-hop from female rappers. Some of the cuts are classics. All are interesting. More importantly it presents a real, convincing argument that females have a more vital role in hip-hop than many critcs suggest.

Actually I find it interesting checking out stuff I've never heard of before. If ya like it, cool. If not, don't listen to it.

one that is kind of old but I guess not so famous is the "jazz butcher" which is nothing like the name. Not much to be found easily though.

house--felix da housecat, esp. 'devin dazzle' ep.
ms. kittin.
dj.hell.

punk-- distillers 'sing sing death house,' nomeansno 'sex mad,' minor threat 'out of step.'

classical--brahms, the piano stuff. thank you condi rice.

hippy--iron and whine, carla bruni, the be good tanyas, gillian welch, jolie holland ( not the new one though, it's awful).

drum and bass--aphrodite, mickey finn. still the best.

rock and roll--the fratellis, tapes 'n' tapes, libertines, dirty pretty things, babyshambles.

weepy self indulgent dribble; death cab for cutie, 'i will follow you into the dark.' far as i can tell it's their only good song, but wow, is it ever good.

Love Muse! I downloaded some Fratelli's about a month ago... good stuff. I'll check out some of these others too and see what I like. Always on the look out for new stuff (or at least new to me!).
