i think we all know that 1 beer will not put you over the alcohol level making you legally drunk. so what difference does it make if I drink that one beer right after work with the coworkers or on the way home in the car (provided its the one and only can in the car)?

Though the laws on drinking and driving are more relaxed than in many western countries. The blood alcohol limit here in Korea is 0.05, so be careful. For god's sake why would you want to actually drink inside your car while driving?

The legal limit of 0.05 is the same in Australia, and the rule of thumb is two beers in the first hour, and one every hour thereafter should keep you under.

However, no food will kick that up higher in the short term.

Small body size will also raise your levels for the same amount of drinking.

When I was in the Czech Republic, the alcohol limit was 0!! That's right folks!! 0 as in "zero". Don't know if this has changed, but very few people took the chance of being caught!!

Thanks for clarifying that, but I was just pointing out the fact that the legal limit in the vast majority of the E2 visa granted population, the legal limit is 0.08. Save for Australia and South Africa.

Your assessment of legal drinking rules seem to be the same as the ones I grew up believing. However I thought letting the folks out there know what the law was couldn't hurt. That one extra drink could put someone over the limit they are accustomed to.

I dunno, but just for those of you who are alittle on the high side of that rule...keep mustard packets in your car and try and stay as far away from the breathalyzer as possible when you blow. You'll be straight

What's wrong with: If you drink, don't drive. If you drive, don't drink.

I spent four years in a small town at a uni job. I am a complete teetotler but I was stopped about once a week. It was usually the same cop. After 5 or six times he would llok at me, grin and wave me on. Who said all waygooks look alike.

I drive here a fair bit. The police do checks fairly often. I've been stopped more often in my 1 and 1/2 years driving here than I have in my many years driving back home.

Funny thing is in the past two weeks I've gone through two check points, both on a Saturday and both in the early afternoon or late morning. One was at the payment booths going onto the dong-bu expressway, the cops had a couple of guys pulled over to the side, they were taking their details!

The other was in the new area near Haeundae, they were hidden under the bridge and got people after doing U-turns there, most people driving that way get on the gyeongbu expressway.
