Hello everyone,

I am new to Dave's ESL cafe so I am not exactly sure if this is where I post something about schools. Anyway, I just wanted to warn anyone who was thinking about teaching English in Cheongju, in a place called Sugok dong at a school called Jungchul....I would STRONGLY advise against it. Here's why:

1) When you have a phone interview and talk to other foreign teachers the boss is standing next to the phone so you dont say anything bad.
2) The boss (Anna) told us she has a depression(im sure its bi-polar - so violent mood swings)
3) In the year that I was there, there were 25 teachers that had been hired and either fired or quit.
4) Lots of extra unexpected work (without pay)
5) All in all the boss is VERY manipulative...i would stay FAR away

While we're at it: Herald School in Cheonan is all bad news. They screwed me and they'll screw you too. PM me for more of the sad details.

I worked for a cult group, so I feel your pain. I worked for BR English Jr. They are a religious organization that mixes English teaching with New Age beliefs and Hinduism. It was scary. Plus, they lost my diploma after they fired me. Stay away from them....

Kang's International Schools owned by an architect from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Shin-ae-dong and Chang-dong, Seoul; Wonderland Junior English School in Ansan City, Gyyeongi Province; Wonderland Junior Englsih School on River Hill Road (across the street from the Samsung River Hill Road Apartment Complex) near Mapo Station; Korea Herald Language Institute near City Hall in Seoul (run by Kim In-Bok and some other little piece of dung named Kim Something or Other); B.C.M. in Nampo-dong, Busan City; Genius Jack English School in Shin Jeju City, Jeju Island; and probably every second Korean business out there, eh.

Reminds me of a true story I heard first hand in Seoul a few year back....true because I heard it from the man...
Seoul had invited a number of top police agency heads from around the world to a cop convention; present were top leaders from the RCMP, FBI, LAPD, New Scotland Yard, Japan, Germany, etc...
(How I wound up there is another story....)
Anyway...these leaders had already spent a week in korea touring around the country...shop talk got around about the constant violation of laws in korea and it was mentioned...."gesh....our department would not have enough ticket books to write up all the violations I have seen here!" Another went on to add...."just may as well put a fence all around the country with the amount of law breakers here."

So.....might as well just mention only the good hogwon schools, decent owners, etc......because I believe very few are good. Many a handful out of how many....hundreds of thousands?
It's the luck of the draw if one lands a decent gig...a that's a shame for a country that claims it's on par with Japan, England, Europe, Canada, etc...

For a country that's deluded enough to think they're on par.

GDA Junior is another hakwon I would advise against. The administration is disorganized, and there is no English supervisor.

None of the teachers that finished their year contract at the same time as me, were mailed the 550,000won that we had taken off our paychecks after our first three months.

We were supposed to be mailed the money after we finished our contracts, after they took the last month utilities off. No money mailed to me after five months now. Rolling Eyes

Oxford English School in Yangjeong dong in Busan. The owner Mrs. Kim is pretty much the definition of Satan. Always trying to get you to do extra work without paying, always trying to scam you out of money, I could go on about her.

This topic should really be a forum unto itself, not just a thread.
