Hi all,

I'll soon be finishing at a public school before the end of my contract and will go on to work in a Hagwan (teaching adults!). I've been told by my manager that someone from the school doesn't need to go with me to immigration for me to cancel my visa and get the letter of release.
This sounded odd to me... is this because it's a public school? Or are they wrong?

I'm a little confused, and hope someone who's done this before could let me know..

Cheers,

It sounds a little odd but check with both managers to see if they have an agreement between them. In your contract I think it states that they can basically farm you out to any government department. Obviously you are not going to a govt department but if both parties agree and sign the necessary paperwork, then it is ok for you to work there. If you are confused by what I have just said or by the situation in general, then call immigration in Seoul on 02-503-7095 and you can speak to someone who speaks English.

Thanks for the suggestion goodsounz, I just called and they told me I could transfer the visa (public school>hagwon) with a few documents and a 60k fee. I didn't think this was possible, but hope it is!
