Hi guys, I was just wondering if there is anything i can do about my school not paying my health insurance? Also, I would love to leave the school but I dont know how I can do this? Is there anyone out there that could advise me on the resignation process.
Cheers

My haggie doesn't pay either. No taxes, no medical, no pension..nothing.
I'm in my fifth month now. What to do? Make it living hel at work by calling the labor board? Lousy contract was broken from the start and I wanted to leave. The problem is the airfare. I find it unfair having to pay my own way back when it was not me breaking the contract. |

Your boss is a liar and a thief.
There are no good options for you when your boss is crooked. If you try to do the "right thing" you will get burned even more.
I have no problem recommending that you pull a runner. |

Do you have your ARC? You cannot get registered for medical without it.
If you have your ARC
AND
If they are not paying your NHIC, I assume you are NOT paying into pension and it also makes me wonder if your paying proper taxes and if they are being submitted or is your boss just pocketing 5% of your pay. |

Contact the NHIC and PUSH them to get you registered.

| Health insurance became mandatory for all foreign workers on January 1, 2006. There is no minimum number of employees that need to be employed. |

The director takes nothing out of my pay. I collect my gross pay. Absolutely no taxes, pension or medical. I even mentioned it last week and so far there has been no indication of progress in any areas. I really hate this. What happens if the tax man comes knocking?
I have an ARC and a valid E2 visa. |

| Your boss is a dishonest crook. If you resign, he will probably screw you over. Then again, if you want to work elsewhere you will need a letter of release. However, if you don't wanna work here, at least until your visa expires, I would suggest just doing a midnight run. |

It's really not a tough decision. I don't think I've been very happy here from the start. I'm at the point where I price tickets just for amusement. The best so far is United. The last thing I'll do before I take off is post the name and location. |

Report your employer to the tax, pension and NHIC offices. There are penalties for employers who skim off the top. I'm not sure about the tax office and NHIC, but I do know that there is a 5% penalty on pension contributions not made, all payable by the employer.
Reporting them won't improve your lot very much, but it will give you the satisfaction that perhaps your suffering wasn't too much in vain.
BTW, doing the right thing and giving them proper notice will probably only open yourself up for more screw overs by that school. |

| Some ESLers love having no deductions. It's a matter of how much risk you are willing to take. |

If your boss takes out no money for medical, and no money for taxes, for sure he is not "on the up and up".
Do you want medical? At my last school (that I got a release letter from) the boss paid straight salary. I insisted on medical, and I was the only person in the 6 years he has been open, that he paid medical for. Most of the other teachers did not even want it.
If you want medical, tell him that. If he says "no", tell him that you are going to leave and you want a release letter.
Better yet, e-mail the request to him. this way you will have proff you asked him. If he says no, or tries to screw you, take that e-mail to the labor board.
Do you think the boss would be happy if you showed that to anyone? He would give you a release letter just so you do NOT show it.
I would write a very nice email.
Dear....
As of this date___ I still do not have any medical insurance. I would like to know when it will be issued.
Thank you
FYI, the boss has to back pay med. from the day you started, and that will not make him a happy camper. |

My boss has given me a situation -
I am a Brit so I dont get pension money back.
I can -
1) pay tax and pension and have health insurance (total deduction is 10%)
or
2) just pay tax (total deduction is 3.3%)
so it seems like pension and health insurance go together like hooker hill and STDs.
If I choose not to pay pension (is that even an option?) I have no health insurance.
Is this the case?
The follow on from this is - where can I get private health insurance? |

It's a tactic to discourage you from calling in sick. In the even that you do call in sick, your boss will come to your home to 'help' you get to the doctor and 'help' you understand what the doctor is saying. |
