I just put up black construction paper on my two sliding glass doors. Now, it will be even darker in my room than wearing something sround my eyes when I sleep. That's my biggest gripe about Korea. Why must every freaking apartment have HUGE windows or doors where the light shines in like crazy??? There is a place to hang curtains, but I am too short and I have no chairs in my place, nor do I want to buy a chair right now. I plan to get creative, too and post up photos and cards from Mom and Dad on top of the black paper, so it will look better. Right now, it's not the prettiest thing I have seen but it will keep out the light, as in, it will do its job!!! |

Because they'd rather keep the lights off as long as possible because they think it's a great way to save money!
Yes, I know they are not correct. Big windows means more heat escapes= more cost. |

My apartment does have an enormous window, and it faces almost directly east, meaning that it gets hot as hell in here when the sun is up. I'm still running the A/C during midday hours because the sun bakes me alive. And that's with blinds.
One positive aspect of it is that it makes it easier to wake up. I can't really roll over and hit the snooze when the sun is blaring in my face. |

Food for your thoughts: The chaebols that opperate oil refineries also own construction companies. |

We shouldn't discuss any conspiracies with the chaebols.
We might go missing! |

It's amazing that buildings here have huge window panes. I'm sure everywhere else, they have tiny little itzy bitzy windows in apts or homes right?
I bet 100W that if your apt would have smaller windows, you would complain about the lack of light coming in and decree that Korean Apts are inferior to western standards and compare them to caves.
Maybe if you would have grown up in a brighter lit home, then your growth wouldn't have stunned and you'd be able to hang up some curtains, as well as developed common sense to use a ladder to compensate.
You don't have a chair at home? - What an outcry! Every normal person sits on chairs, only "WEIRD KOREANS" sit and sleep on the floor.
How can someone complain about spending 80,000 on a dress or sweater but hold back on purchasing a chair? Are you such a cheap person or did you spend it all on overpriced imports?
Please post pics of your new covered up accomplishments in your apt. I could use some ideas for interior decorations, thanks!
Please don't take offense. |

If you lived in the basement dungeon I lived in my first year in Korea, you would NEVER complain about too much natural light in your apartment.

Are you for real Princess? Do you have any friends? Big windows is your biggest gripe, but I'm sure it won't be your last one... |

Thank you for your oh so insightful comments and for putting words in my mouth that I didn't say. I never said Koreans were weird. I sit on the floor all the time, no problemo. I don't have a ladder and I don't want to buy one. A chair is the next option for something to stand on and I don't think I want one of those now either. I have no problem with big windows, only big windows with freaking light shining in while I want to sleep. There is a street light that shines through there...well, not anymore...hehehe I need my sleep. |

Try curtains, maybe? I've seen some pretty thick, heavy fabrics in the markets. |
