Driving home from work today I noticed that hanging in front of both entry ways to Miari Texas is a large banner reading "Foreigners Off-Limits". For those who don't know, Miari Texas is a large prostitute area near Kirum subway station. I don't really have a problem with the individual 'businesses' not allowing foreigners to enter, but to ban us from (what I think is) a public city block is going a bit too far.
There was a thread a while back about Flash Mobs. How about we organize a Flash Mob to meet at Kirum station. As a large group of foreigners we can then take a leisurely stroll through Miari Texas. To spice things up a bit everyone can take a disposable camera (don't want to risk our digitals getting smashed ) and take lots of pictures of the businesses and the johns.
Anyone interested? |

That place wouldn't happen to be near the Gireum station, would it? I think I passed by it on Sunday. |

You know, I never said anything before but I thought that flash mobs were a really stupid and juvenile idea... until now.
Count me in.

Pls take lots of disposal cameras with you. I'd love to see the turnout and the looks on the some Koreans faces. I've got room on my server to host pics, if not here or somewhere else. |

Maybe this is why foreigners aren't allowed in... |

Ok, seriously...I'm able to arrange some local (and to a limited degree international) media coverage of this IF indeed true. Frankly, I have trouble believing it (no offense to you, dutchdude) until I see photographic proof because the phrasing of the sign/banner seems "too correct" to be of local origin.
"Off-limits...".....waaaaaay too proper for a banner, unless the Miari Hooker Association hired a whitey to copy edit it. |

I thought the same thing when I saw the poster. Actually it's written in Korean and in English. I can't remember the exact phrasing but it definitely said off-limits. I think it was something like "Foreigners Off-Limit Zone". Anyway, I won't be going back to work until next Tuesday due to the holidays. I'll try to remember to bring the cam and get a picture for you.
If you really can't wait, just hop a train to Kirum station. It's on the blue line, 4 stops north of Tongdaemun station. |

Screw that. The point isn't whether or not we can get hookers. Obviously they are available elsewhere, if we even want them.
The point is that a city block is off-limits to us because we aren't Korean.
The fact that the particular block they've chosen is a hooker district has even more disturbing implications. |
