this makes sense to a certain extent. But it doesn't account for why a similar phenomenon has not occured just over the water in Japan which has an equally, if not greater, group mindset. This has puzzled missiologists for decades now and shows just how difficult (dangerous?) it is to generalise. And it was Jesus who said that the masses of Israel were like sheep without a shepherd (Mark 6:34)

I think a close reread of my post will verify an absence of silliness. I wasn't personally declaring anything of the sort. I referred a) to the west and b) to a Biblical definition (not my own) which I didn't quote as I didn't think anyone would be interested.
Without a Biblical definition of who is and isn't a Christian, the entire discussion on this thread becomes meaningless. The Bible has a historical pedigree greater than any other source when it comes to forming a basis for understanding who/what is Christian. Therefore, I'd never deign myself worthy to reinvent this particular wheel 
Perhaps for the sake of clarity I should state what Jesus said on this issue.

This is why I alluded to the OP that real CHristians would have carried her groceries instead of harrassing her. |

Does anyone know of any person who, by means of being accosted by a Christian (or otherwise) on the street, has eventually been converted to the accoster's religion? I sure as hell haven't. Lucky for the preachers they don't have sales targets, I expect they'd all be sacked for gross incompetence.

I think they are just more noticeable here, because WE are more noticeable. Missionaries see us walking down the street, and they think, "HEY! FOREIGN PERSON!" Missionaries back home have a harder time picking out the potential heathens in a more multicultural society.  |
This particular point is so true... Several times I've been chatting with someone (casually dressed - not much of a hint of being a missionary) on the street, only 5 minutes later to hear "have you heard the good news???"... Oh, shiit... |
Something like that happened to me a couple weeks ago. A couple guys came up to me asking the usual questions. They seemed polite and I was waiting for somebody to come to me, so I talked to them. Then they asked if I had a religion. I said I don't go to church in Korea, which is true enough to keep them off my back. Then one of them pointed at the front door of their church and said "Come with us." That's when I got out of there.
By the way, has anyone ever heard of Christians who go to church on Saturday? One of my students told me he goes to church on Saturday mornings and I was surprised. |

They might have a special service for students. I used to go to church a bit my first year in Korea, and there was a mass for students on Saturdays. They even had the whole right side of the church reserved for them. Even if the left side was packed, you couldn't sit there- you had to stand in the back, cuz the right side was for the students. My friends and I tried to sit there and we were told to move. 
Going to church was extremely disappointing for me. I tolerated the staring (man, it was mortifying walking up to communion- you'd think ppl would be busy praying, but they were busy staring. It was my first year in Korea, and I had a really, really hard time with the staring thing~), and even though I couldn't understand, my friend had a copy of a missil (sp?) in English a friend sent her, so we could follow along with the gospel readings. Anyway, my friends and I went up in the balcony a couple of times so that our presence wouldn't bother ppl (a group of 3 foreigners was entirely too distracting for some ppl, and it was distracting for us to constantly have ppl turning around and looking at us, etc.). An usher came upstairs and very rudely kicked us out of the balcony, and we had had enough. I'd never seen my friend so upset before (he was 60, and he NEVER got rattled). Meh. I suppose all churches aren't like that, but my experience at that church really put me off. It was clear we weren't welcome at that church.  |

Seventh Day Adventists go to church on Saturdays.
Seventh Day Adventists just believe that you should still go to church on Saturday, because it is the Sabbath day, and that is the day God requested.
Modern day Christians go to church on Sunday because they believe that is the day Jesus resurrected, and that is the day they should celebrate.
Not a big difference, I believe. Just which day you choose to go to church. |

So, do you believe heaven ?
I am too busy to care for that part of world, I will let my ghost take care that part.
When people say they are Christian, that's fine, but if they try to say anything about bible, I get allergy reaction.
I was once a Sunday school teacher and have played piano during Sunday service at my church just like my own sister, but unfortunately I don't much care now.
I believe God as a creator of universe, that's about, nothing more, nothing less. Does he has anything to do with heaven ??
Oh, I am terrible
One of my uncles was a pastor and my own sister married to a pastor.
I've heard I am on their prayer lists |
