Okay christians get a lot of flak on here on account of missionaries and evangelising but....

...why do they send out missionaries?

Okay I can understand in olden times when the only way to spread the good news was to walk from town to town. Surely nowadays in developed countries, with all the tools of modern communication it's not neccessary. If anybody really wants to find out about christianity they can look it up on the Internet.

Wouldn't a christians duty to evangelise be fulfilled simply be responding fully to inquiries?

Can any christian enlighten me on this one?

See Matthew 28:16-20. Most Christians thinks this command also refers to them.

Peace

16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Peace

Oh well I guess that's pretty clear.

They aren't told to be polite about it or that they can just take an "I'm not really interested" for an answer.

If you believed that anyone who hadn't accepted Jesus as their lord and savior was doomed to eternal damnation, wouldn't you feel compelled to get the Good News to them?

If you saw a man you believed was drowning and you were holding a life preserver, would you just walk by and not bother to throw it to him?

If the guy was yelling for help, sure. I don't throw life preservers at everyone I see who is playing in the water.

Hmmmmmmm ... good question.

Well, my guess is it could only be to spread the missionary position of the Bible
out amongst the ignorant cave-dwelling masses Idea
