I am very interested in going to south korea with my girlfriend to teach english (public school or hagwon) we are both fresh our of teachers college with our B Ed. is it possible to make certain requests and be fortunate enough to have them fulfilled? these are the items i'd want for my one year placement:
- minimum 1bd appartment fully furnished (preferably two) since its a couple. just no studio (what size should i request as minimum size?)
- work near or in busan preferably
- max 22h/w in class
- we'd both receive the same vacation time off (min 14 days, pref. 1month)
- min 2.1mil/won per month. (i'm sure i could get more if i looked hard, but i'd settle for 2.1 for a good placement)
I'm probably forgeting something, but is it realistic to find a placement with this criteria? Is this reasonable? thanks |

Yes it's possible...those requests are not crazy.....
However.....in Korea there are no real promises and you will never know until you get here if what you request is what you get.
Good luck! |

one month vacation/22 hours a week might be a bit tricky to get at a hagwon, especially from overseas- but it is certainly very possible with a bit of patience/luck.
the other terms shouldn't be all that hard to manage (again, with patience/persistence).
I'd really encourage the public school angle- as you'd have an easier time matching the terms you describe here (as most of my public school teacher friends are on around 20 hours a week/1-2 months vacation depending on location).
good luck |

In terms of vacation and hours in the classroom, you might have a hard time finding this for 2.1 mill at a hagwon. You could maybe try public schools.
As a newbie, it's harder to get a good job like this. It usually takes connections made in your first year until you get a sweet hook up. |

| These aren't unreasonable if you are at a public school. You would be very, very lucky to get that at a hogwan. Contact Amy at kimnjoe.com. She's really good and will listen to what you want. |
