..in reference to downloading a movie and a game. They said that the respective companies are wanting to take legal action, but KT are granting a first-time warning without legal action to it's customers.
They wouldn't tell me the game or movie name, so I have no idea what it may be, but be on your guards people. I can guess which game, but as to which movie, it's a complete mystery. A newer one, I suspect and most definitely through BitTorrent.
Be careful....the long arm of the MPAA and software devs has indeed reached Korea.
My download days are over, I'm afraid. Until I find ways around it, it's just not worth facing a lawsuit. |

Is this a wind-up Demo?
Do you think you were picked randomly? There must be millions of daily downloaders in Korea. |

This is pretty scary sounding. I would recommend changing the name of this thread to MPAA came knocking on my door in Korea and move it to the general discussion area.
More people need to see this so they can be aware of it. I would really like to hear how many others get this same call?

I kid you not, mate. I wish I were joking, but hey, we always think it could never happen to us, right?
Thank goodness KT have a one-time forgiveness thing going. I'm sure the US companies are in a state about that. I am going to switch ISPs and quit downloading for a while.
If and when I do it again, it won't be anything new, that's for sure. I suspect they pretty much randomly tag some of the hotter tickets; the newer, recent stuff.
Apparently, the KT guy said they were handed a long list of IPs the company wanted to file against. I don't know how KT could manage to give amnesty to everyone when facing what is probably huge pressure, but it's a very kind action.
We always hear about a friend of a friend, or "a guy I know", but I'm telling you, it's real. The people who know me know I wouldn't fib about this. |

Just do your downloading in the pc room
In one hour you can download one movie or several simultanously
I do it all the time because they have the best internet speed

This is an option, but what a price! I'd rather buy the movie or game than sit for an hour in a PC room. I have more money than patience in that matter. |

Did you download something Korean? That's the only time I've ever heard of them doing anything. I'm betting that's it....
...cause how could they "give you a first time warning" if it was American companies. KT has no power with them. If they want to sue, they sue. Further, I don't think Korean have to divulge any IPs to U.S. companies anyway.
BTW: was the game EA and are you sure it was bittorrent? Do you use anything else?
Let us know in any case. Sounds seriously sh*tty! |

KT has really good english technical support and customer service. I find it funny you can talk to a tech support person in Korea with a higher level of english fluency than you might get in North America these days. |

Demo, did you use any software to block "certain" IPs? *Cough* I'm using Peer Guardian 2 and would like to know if it helps or not. |

Here's a thought: ALL int'l calls are "monitored".
Great way for fun-loving "all ears" kimchi munchers to learn a new language

They are upset with your high bandwidth usage, and are using this to cut it down. |
