Yeah, long vacations, and decent pay are big reasons I have stayed, but it is more than just that. I really like Korea. I like the way society is organized. I like its cities, people, its countryside. I enjoy the interpersonal aspects more each day, that fine nuance or sublime that is the Korean experience. I would have been bored if it was only for the money or free time. I do realize that having free time and some money has given me more of an opportunity to enjoy things in Korea, but I have generally liked what I have found. Not to say that it is all good, but gravitating to the things you like is only natural. |
I realize now just how social Korea is (not to mention Asia) after having lived back in the US for six months. I remember making just 1.5 million won a month in my first year yet I was having the time of my life. I've noticed that a lot of people in the US are good at making a living but not actually living.
Envisioning a return. |

I'll be here for 3.5 years. It's the filthy, filthy low-taxed lucre. Shameful.
Along the way I've met many cool people who are doing really cool things in life whom I would have never met back home.
People make the place. |

Met a guy yesterday who's been in Korea for 6 years, and it showed. I reckon its bad for your health to stay in the ROK for that long- kind of an underlying depression, resignation and gloom set in. But, its up to how the individual handles it I suppose... |
