I was in Lotte Mart, cruising the sollal liquor specials, and spotted some mushroom wine. Has anyone tried it? It doesn't sound good. But I think the novelty factor would be worth taking a bottle home.

I've tried it. Supposedly it's a decent anti-oxidant. With Korea pushing the "Well Being " thing, it will probably be around for a while.

Notice that there is no discussion off taste in this review, no "it has a delicate bouquet marked by woody notes of shitake and button." It does mention that it's supposed to be goodd for you. Those two things in combination probably give you all the information you need.

It still may have novelty value.

EDIT: The beep actually makes this funnier. Thank you oversensitive swear filter.

It's prolly in the liquor aisle because it can get you drunk, not for the enjoyment benefits. I would be curious about the taste as well. Let us know if you do try it.

Was it expensive? Was it in a regular wine bottle?

The taste is OK. Not something you really drink to get drunk off. More of a one or two shot drink before and after a meal.

Bamboo wine is quite tasty.Very mild, refreshing even.

I used to like sansachun(a mountain berry wine),but these days it just tastes like sour milk to me.

IIRC, around 20,000. I think it was in more of a liquor bottle versus a wine bottle. It was in a gift set, so I think some glass were included. I'll stop by on my way home tomorrow night to double check.

In a regular supermarket, you can get a plumju-sized bottle of mushroom wine for around 3 to 4,000. I haven't tried it, though. Sansamju is another "healthy" option (made from wild ginseng). For the very adventurous, head to the south-west to, for example, Gwangju, and try onion or garlicju! Raspberry wine (bokbunjaju) is quite nice, though it can be quite sweet depending on the brand. At the moment I'm drinking Pyongyang soju - basically a kind of soju with a small amount of added honey. Not bad at 2,000 a bottle.

You can get 24 bottles of Pyongyang soju delivered free (2,000 won each) by calling (02) 335-0048 or (02) 886-6678. Just make sure you can speak some Korean or have a Korean do it for you. They also offer a variety of other alcoholic drinks from the DPRK, but at the moment they're not selling Taedongang beer due to delays at customs.

2 - 500ml bottles of mushroom wine
3 - soju cups
===========
W19,500

If I have any money left after my Seoul trip, I'll probably buy it. One bottle to enjoy here, and one bottle to take home to my friends.

Checked out the Sunae Sol lal Lotte Dept.Store thing today but in front on me-like I couldn't even get close enough to the tags-was an ajosshi with his partner gesturing, with great fury over to the booze shop on our left.

This is not good value!!

Very Happy True Sir

In my opinion it tastes like crap. I don't like it. There are many many many other flavours of alcohol which taste so much better (such as bokbunju, baeksaeju, regular soju, daenamusul, maeshil...)

It would probably make a great gift for a Korean recipient though.
