Hi:
Does anyone out there know what the passport/visa requirements are for a two year contract? I've been toying with the idea of working at an international school, and I always get refered to immigration. Their website has no information on two year contracts, unless it's in Korean, in which case, I'm kind of at a loss.
Any information you may have will be much appreciated.
Cheers,

I'm gonna take a wild guess you'll have to take a quick vacation at the halfway point. |

At an international school, it is standard for them to ask you to sign a two-year contract.
Often you will not be sponsored on an E-2 visa, but on an E-7 (I believe). Anyway, even if they did sponsor you on an E-2 visa, it would just be for one year and then renewed for the second year with NO visa run in between.
My understanding is that somehow, they don't (usually) meet the qualifications to sponsor an E-2 visa holder, so they default to the E-7 category.
HOWEVER, that's my experience--may not be applicable to all people in all situations. You could always call and ask the school, or better yet, ask someone who works at the school to find out how it would apply in your situation. |

It would require a change in immigration law.
Currently teachers (E2) get 1 year visas which are renewable.
Professors CAN get a 2 year visa (E1).
If you want a longer visa, marry a Korean or become a successful soccer coach. |

I'm on a 2-year contract with an E-2. I simply visit immigration every year and renew. |

At my last uni I was on a 2-year contract on an E-1. The 2-year contract didn't get me a 2-year visa. I had to extend my sojourn after the first year and provide immigration with another copy of the contract the same as I would have had to do if I had renewed a 1-year contract. |
