I heard somewhere that people who work in public schools are not allowed to get side work at a hakwon (even with permission).

Is this true and why?

Are there any other restrictions with public schools?

If you know a link to a similar thread you can point me into that direction too.

THANKS!

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it has something to do with the possibility of teaching your public school students at your hogwan, and a conflict of interest. Just a guess.

Actually I have an F2 Visa and I was told that I could teach adults on the side but not anybody else. They are afraid test questions might get out to the hogwans.

I my area I write some of the test questions.

Part of the reasoning. The other part is to ridiculous to go into.

I heard this is true.

The reason I heard was, theoreticaly, a public school teacher could "require" students to go to a certain hogwon over another. Kinda conflicting interests.

I work at a public school and my principal said it is okay to have extra work as long as she gives me a letter of permission.

She used to be very high up when she worked at Gyeonggi-do education office, so knows what she's talking about.

So just ask your employer for a permission letter.

Just lie and say it will only be at weekends. That way your principal wont be worried about you working too much in the week and not having enough energy etc for the students at your school...

Cool

public schools will approve ligit side jobs, it just depends on the principal and the side job. If you can't see the possible conflict in working a side job at a hagwon well.....
