Does it tend to cost about $200 or more to get a passport in less than two weeks? So far that's what my web research is turning up... as opposed to $90 for 4-week processing. |

I can get you a Kazakhstan passport delivered to you in 48 hours ....
Afraid you're going to be a little more revealing about your needs and where the passport will be issued.
We're not all Americans, Canadians, Australians, British, New Zelanders, Irish or South Africans. |

I used passportsandvisas.com. But they were a nightmare. I used their 4-6 day service and ended up waiting 2 and a half weeks. Each time I called I was given a new arrival date for my passport. They honestly didn't know when I would receive it. Expediting is kind of useless, I think -- but go ahead and do it, as it seems you're under deadline anyhow. This company is based in Miami, Florida, and did not have capacity to fulfill my passport there, so they sent it to California. Yea.
I suggest that you go ahead and begin the passport process with someone, but not with this one. One thing you need to do is mark on your passport application a departure date that is well before your actual departure date. This is what they actually go by, when deciding to put your "expedited" application to the front, middle, or back of the line.
Passport agencies can only process so many applications, and when a particular agency has met their maximum allotment from the government, they send your application to someone with open capacity. |

I'm confused... You mean you pay a private company to submit your application for you? |

I went to the main State department site for the information. The first question that comes to mind is this your first passport or a renewal? That makes a big difference.
For first time expedited passport here's what you need:
http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_831.html
Expedited Service
Cost, in addition to regular application fees, is $60 per application plus overnight delivery costs.
Two-way overnight delivery is strongly suggested.
If you mail in - clearly mark Expedited on the envelope.
Anyone may request expedited service for any type of application (e.g., first-time applications, renewals, amendments of existing passports, etc.)
After you apply - You will receive your passport:Ordinarily, if you paid additionally for expedited service and two-way overnight delivery within about 2 weeks

Passport Fees
March 8, 2005
Routine Services (Form DS-11)
Non-Refundable
Age 16 and older: The passport application fee is $67. The execution fee is $30. The total is $97 .
****Plus the $60 fee to speed up the process****
The total cost is $157 plus postage and copy charges.
I hope that helps a little, and if not it at least gives you a starting point if you hadn't already found the site. |

What Samantha said. I had to drive four hours to Denver because it was the nearest passport issuing office, but it was worth it. I went into the office (you do have to make an appointment ahead of time), there was no line, and I stood at the window for maybe five minutes while they dotted the i's and crossed the t's. I gave them a prepaid overnight shipping envelope, and I got my passport in the mail the next day. Very hassle free, and well worth the extra 60 bucks if you're in a hurry. |
