Hi all,
Just wanted to tell everyone to keep an eye out for the first issue of our monthly 'zine. It is available right now at various restaurants, bars and shops in Hongdae, and coming soon to Sinchon and Itaewon.
What is it?
Speakeasy is a cultural project that aims to stimulate the exchange of ideas, art, and involvement between cultures by producing a monthly bi-lingual magazine and hosting innovative benefit parties. The goals of the project are to provide an outlet for artists, Korean and foreign, to present their work to a wider audience; to expose foreigners to overlooked Korean culture, music, art, and social venues; and to provide Koreans and foreigners alike with information on ways to get involved with their community. As its namesake suggests, the project is a place to come together and to find the Seoul you never knew was there.
We are currently looking for:
Koreans and foreigners in Seoul looking to have their artistic work published, who want to be involved in the editing and publication of a monthly 'zine, or who are interested in promoting innovative parties. Inquiries to [email protected] Submissions to [email protected]
I hope you all don't consider this shameless self promotion, but I truly think many of you would be interested in reading some of the content.
If you've seen it...tell me what you think!

Really good idea going with the art angle and Hongdae, etc...And props for not disrespecting the board by taking the 'in your face' mass-spam approach that the other upstart magazines do/did. Ggod luck and hope you guys have stamina. |

Sex sells =)
This magazine is probably free too. So it should sell real well.
Good luck.
When I move to Seoul I'll probably pick it up. |

Is that an 'Olivia' illustration on the cover, or some old pop-art from the '50's, or what? Or was that done by one of your staff? Looks very professional. Good work. |

I did the design for the poster, so thank you for your compliment. I believe the pin-up girl is just some pop art, but not from the 50s. |
