Something is rotten in the Korean entertainment industry. This is like the third young lady within a year that's killed herself. And then there was that singer who died in a car crash.
I know entertainment chews you up and spits you out, but this is getting sick. |

Not the classiest, but I had a twinge of the same response. Is that really a good reason to off yourself? "Noone will hire me!! I'm not loved enough by Korean media outlets!!"
I know there must be more to the story, but at first glance it does seem pretty lame. |

Not surprised to hear this sort of response from you Wrench. But then again empathy has never been your strong point.
It would be interesting to have a real conversation with you to see what insecuruities and past events created the persona you have.
And this belief of mine is not based solely on your post, but with a lot of your posts on tese boards. |

I think a lot of entertainers in general are treated pretty shitty by those who "exploit" them, their glossy exteriors and big bank balances don't make up for a lot of things that are missing from their fantastic lives |

Hey, rich people have it pretty tough. All that money...all that blow...uh, it's rough.
I heard she died because Koreans are too anonymous online. |

She was a student at a school I used to teach at (before my time). I imagine everyone is pretty sad about it. I remember hearing that she wasn't a very good student, but of course, everyone was happy for her when she became famous. I enjoyed the one movie I saw her in (the one where she got her head stuck in the fence).
By the way, there has been a lot of news in the Korean media this past year about how actors/actresses don't always make the money you might think they do here. The entertainment industry is VERY corrupt, and often locks them in contracts where they don't make a dime for years. Moon Gun Young was in one of these contracts, and it shocked people when she came out and said she didn't make a dime until after the age of 18 (I think that was the age she said).
To put money in perspective, my fiance' is in upper management at one of the larger female-oriented companies in Korea. Korean stars who endorse companies like hers earn around 150,000,000 won just for their name. That's not including being paid for every commercial/layout their in. That's just for starters. My gf told me that it was actually cheaper for a competitor to hire Jessica Alba as their model than it was to hire a Korean star... almost 3 times cheaper!
There are huge amounts of money being thrown at stars for endorsements, but the stars don't always see much of it. If you think there is a "good ol' boy" network in business back home, you wouldn't believe what goes on behind the scenes here in "conservative" Korea. And one way or another, it all goes back to big business and the quite small group of people who actually call the shots behind the scenes in this country.
Those of you here a few years ago might remember "The X Files" that came out. Basically, it was a list of top stars, and how much it would cost you to sleep with them. It revealed some pretty big names, and was apparently from a very credible source, like an agent or someone. It shocked the nation.
I mention that, only to state that there are often things going on with these stars that the papers will never mention. FYI, Jeon Ji Hyun used to be a room salon hooker before she became famous. A friend of mine used to work at an expensive hotel in Seoul, and saw her coming in/out with different high-level executives on numerous occasions (before she was famous).
