Sorry, this is a re-post from the travel section, but I'm trying to get as much help as possible.
No gods smile on me.
Day 1 here, too exhausted for words, and I lost my passport - most likely on the KTX from Seoul to Daegu.
I don't know how you other folks would manage getting an E2 visa in my situation, but any help will be great. I am South African, so any South African specific help will be REALLY appreciated.
Apparently I can't go to Japan (visa run) on a temporary visa, but someone else told me that I can, I just need to get a travel document from the Japanese Embassy. The woman at the
I'm pretty scared and worried my 30 day tourist visa is going to run out... hmmm.
Is there a way I can get it extended?
I'm off to Seoul in the morning to visit the grand South African Embassy...chances are I'm getting lost as well. |

Dude, yer screwed....
Long and short of it....
You need a REGULAR passport to travel anywhere EXCEPT a return to your home country. You MUST have a regular passport to obtain a visa.
I hope you have the necessary documents for a replacement passport and that it doesn't take too long for you to get it.
Worst case, you will be returning to S.A. on an emergency travel document at the end of your 30 days.
Best case, they can get you a regular passport fairly quickly and you can then apply for your E2 and do your visa run. They state that it currently takes 3-6 months to get a replacement passport.
Sorry to be the bearer of not good news.

CALL your embassy ASAP and ask them how you can get a re-issued passport. |

I lost my passport once (i am american, but i'm sure the rules could be similar, although the american citizen services here at the US embassy are very fast and efficient because of the military presence), anyhow.
1. Must file a police report (to prove it is lost).
2. Get to your embassy and tell them and they will also give you procedures.
3. If you have citizenship proof back in South Africa, or better yet, with you, you'll need those documents again. Any identification is helpful. Remember, you must prove your citizenship to SA again to obtain your passport.
4. The US embassy was able to make me a new passport within 3 hours, but i'm not sure about SA.
Send me a PM and help you out more. |

The SA embassy website says they can issue emergency travel documents or temporary passport without much problem but a regular passport takes 3-6 months to process from here.
Most countries won't let you enter on an emergency passport. It is just to get you home.
I am not sure what he will do because he entered on a tourist stamp (30 day) instead of an E2 and now he has to do his visa run soon but cannot enter Japan on an emergency passport.
I wish him good luck. |

Korea will allow an extension. I had some Visa Delays,so theygave me a 6 week extension for 150,000 WON. Immigration is pretty reasonable with the extensions as long as you can prove that you lost your passport and are waiting for a new one.
I actually didn't have my citizenship papers with me, but i had the citizenship number, along with social security and driver's license and they granted me a 1 year passport (sort of looks like a 10 year one).
My guess is this emergency passport looks like the real one except it's term of validity (much shorter than the real one). in other regards it's indisguishable and just as effective.
Although my emergency one started to fall apart sooner, the plastic became detached from the paper where the picture was and it looked as if i stole someone's passport and inserted my own picture in there.
Also, i missed a step.
1. File police report
2. contact embassy
3. Go to the immigration office, get your entry/exit information (when you came into the country, etc)
4. Then go to embassy with police report, the entry/exit info, along with citizenship documents, numbers, ID, etc (anything to help identify you in your home country). |

Thanks for the help, folks.
Apparently Hong Kong will allow me in on a temp passport and I can get my E2 there.
Japan doesn't allow temp passports, but they do have an emergeny travel document, but I still have to phone them to find out the details.
I should be getting my temp passport on wednesday, so I SHOULD be able to get an E2 before d-day arrives. BUT my experiences so far have shown me that things don't usually work out. I'm not alone in this am I? |
