Hi Folks,

Wanted to take this opportunity to update you on the Hey, Hey I was Fired Today post.

I made a petition at the Labour Board last week to complain about monies withheld from my final pay and lack of "dismissal pay" (1 month in lieu of notice).

Today was the Labour Board hearing. The boss was there and it lasted about 1.5 hours. Lots of shouting (on the boss' part) and questions but in the end we settled on return of airfare, all of the deposit, and "cleaning charges" for CASH ON THE SPOT! Very Happy No dismissal pay because there was not enough evidence that I was fired - despite witnesses to being told "you're fired - leave now" Confused

So, it's a deal I can live with and it's settled - even convinced the boss to sign a paper stating he would not procced with any criminal and/or civil actions against me and I took the signed original.

Between the firing and the Labour Board hearing I have been pondering my fate. Got a job offer from Beijing (potenitally interesting - money just ok), Laos (wow but 7 USD per hour - yipes). It was looking bleak untill the boyfriend, through family connections, managed to line up teaching jobs for both of us in Italy.

So, on Thursday I leave Korea for Bangkok - I will spend a few days there and then I fly to Milan and start the teaching gig again. It seems a bit unreal.

This forum is a great help. All advice I have received, good and bad, was always appreciated. The Italy forum looks a bit dry compared to the zesty stuff that happens here. I'll see what I can do there. Laughing

Ciao,

Catalina

ps. Looks like I can change my signature now Very Happy

Good luck and sounds like you've got a great time ahead, i loved italy. Wherabouts there are you headed.
Also, it all just goes to show what can be done by a trip to the labour board, everyone hard done-by should do it.
