Well, my feelings aren't that strong, but I just watched "Scoop", and man, he's a really annoying actor.
When he first showed up, I was like, "Ahh...now I understand why my friend was pissed that I chose a Woody Allen movie w/o telling her that Woody Allen was in it..."
But then it looked like he had given himself a minor role, like Quentin Tarantino sometimes does, so I was relieved and settled back to enjoy the movie...
Which had a good plot and was pretty well-acted (even though, Scarlett Johanssen seemed to be trying too hard sometimes), and Hugh Jackman was an excellent choice for his role, but then...what's this?!?!? Woody Allen is in almost every scene?!?! For the love of god....
Anyways, "Scoop" isn't that bad of a movie. I just think it'll be better once they digitally erase him from most of the movie. |

...Yup. Not an inherantly bad movie, but WA is like a talking head... a regular jabber-factory. Lots of scenes of him yammering away next to a much younger, infinitely more attractive talking head.
...It's like "I have millions of dollars with which to project my neuroses onto the big screen". Must be nice.
...Also,dude from Deadwood (Swearangen) is in it as the dead reporter. Wish the WA/Swearengen ratio was reversed. Then it would've been a cool film. |

Woody Allen is an egomaniac.
I think that sums up just about everything. |

| It was interesting to see Scarlett Johannson doing a Woody Allen impression, but I'll agree that the man himself was painful unfunny. I was a little disappointed that the script didn't give Hugh Jackman more to do-- he was just a cardboard stand-in for "Charming and Mysterious Rich Guy." |

| Woody Allen movies are a genre unto themselves, and Woody just plays himself in every movie, but he`s perfect for his own movies. You either get him or you don`t. I love his stuff... |

Woody Allen has made some terrific movies in the past. I'm a huge fan of Bananas and Annie Hall, for instance, and have seen just about everything he has written/directed. However, ever since "Small Time Crooks" I've found him just ... unfunny. Tired, weak, repetitive, annoying. It's not all or nothing. I think he's just jumped the shark. |

Well said.
I've often compared Woody Allen to scotch...you either love it (him), or you can't stand it (him). There aren't too many 'sort of' scotch drinkers. You're a scotch drinker, or you're not. You're either a Woody Allen fan, or you're not. Not too often do you hear someone say, "I loved Woody Allen in ______, but hated him in __________." Sure, some of his movies are better than others, but they're all very uniquely Woody Allen.
As it turns out, I love both scotch and Woody Allen.
I didn't enjoy Match Point so much (not bad, but not great), but both my wife and I quite enjoyed Scoop, though I do have to agree with the earlier poster that mentioned that Scarlett Johannson seemed to be trying to hard. I get that she was playing a geeky, awkward college student, but she made me feel 'uncomfortable' for the first 30 mins of the move or so. |

I think you need to go back and watch ALL the films again. |

I've always loved Woody Allen. Ever since my parents took us to the drive in to ses "Sleeper" back in the mid-70's. I enjoy all of his movies on some level. My faqvorites are "Annie Hall", "Hannah & Her Sisters" & "Crimes & Misdemeanors". His articles in the New Yorker were compilated into a few funny books and his "Stand-up" comedy album is the bomb! I can't say enough about him. I'm trying to find "Sweet & Lowdown". If someonw could help me, it would be appreciated.
Cheers! |

What can be said about a man who has sex with his adopted daughter?
Didn't he marry her, too?
What was that all about, exactly? |
