I can't stand the crappy-a$$ music that pounds away endlessly at my gym. Sometimes it's so loud that I can't hear my Leo Laporte podcasts (any fans?). I sometimes have to turn my volume way up on the Mp3 player probably damaging my ears.

What's a good sealed earbud that I can get readily in Korea. Anybody have good experiences with certain brands/models. I don't want to hear any outside noise if possible.

I have had two Shure in ear phones, the bottom of their range, the E2, which were good, and the top, the E500, and they are excellent. You can buy them at the electronics market just outside the main doors of the Yongsan subway station. They will set you back a pretty won, but are worth it.

Shure also have a very good reputation for replacement of their products.

I think I paid about USD$500 for the E500. I used my E2 for about a year before upgrading. The E500 sound better, and are more comfortable, and look better. The latter had little bearing on my purchase, but I dont mind it.

There are a few in ear phones out there depending on your budget. The Shures, Etymotics, Westones, Ultimate ears are all the upmarket stuff costing well over $100. You'd have to be a fanatic to spend that much.

A little more than that, but still well under USD$100 are the Sennheiser CX 300. While I havent used that model, I have owned a couple of other Sennheiser products, and find them to be of very good quality.

There is an earbud store near Hyewha station that has a wall full of different brands you can sample. I think you have to find McDonalds, and it's one of the two streets back behind it. They sell more brands than you can shake a stick at.

I listened to all of them -- from all of the names mentioned above, to many more. There must be a hundred styles on that wall. I walked away thinking that the Sony EX-90s sounded the best. The bass was absolutely incredible, and they honestly sounded better than anything from Sennheiser or Shure. They were about $90 for a pair. The only problem with them was that they aren't the best earphones to have on a bus, for example, because their innovative style doesn't seal in the ear entirely. It's kind of hard to explain until you try it. In not-so-noisy environments, they excel.

I'll warn you, though, the store owner didn't have any left in stock, and he tried to bait-and-switch me with a cheaper set of Sonys for the same price. Glad I didn't fall for that, because I saw on the internet that the same set he tried to sell me was going for around 50,000 won.

For about 35,000 won or so, you can get some Sony EX-51s that do seal up quite well, and sound great for the money. That's what I went with, and I was very happy.

i have a pair of sennheiser PX200 which cancel out any noise anywhere you cant go wrong with these but they are not in ear but are collapsible and pretty neat fitting. You can pick them up for 50,000 I got them for about 45,000 from a naver search. Ive tried the sennheiser CX200 also and arnt bad. Im in the music production business and go for sennhieser because they make industry quality studio microphones and headphones.

I bought a pair of those Sony EX-51s (or was it 71s?) I've been very satisfied with the price and quality. I've found them at a bunch of different places.

shure's are quite great, and you can pick them up on ebay for about half of their msrp
