Ah, yeah, gidday Trev!
I'm interested in the prevalent wind direction in Busan.
Is it usually blowing from the north west, or, is there usually a sea breeze in summer, coming from the east (if you're in Heaundae)(sp?) or from the south (if you're in the south?).
And, anyone know where the air is the cleanest around those parts there? I know there's an industrial zone in the south east, near the river mouth... many smoke-stack chimneys around there? or does lots of air pollution drift down from Ulsan and Pohang, or down and across from Dirty Daegu..?
Any relevant info.'s useful.
Thanks heaps!

Alas, long gone are the days when a man would wet his finger and hold it still in the air above his head. Meteorological innovations have swept the world with an onslaught of radar and satellite technology. |

Having spent over three years 60 km south of Busan on Geoje Island I can tell you after countless observations of satellite patterns at every time of the year that there are often warm weather systems from the south, sweeping up the pacific, that hits the southeastern bit of Korea before getting pushed toward Japan by the Asian mainland systems heading eastward. Often Busan is smack in the middle of the battling systems.
Busan is a windy city!
And in the winter it may not be anywhere as cold as Seoul and other northerly cities but the wind can be warm sometimes, or alternatively, cuts like a knife! turning 0 to +2 into what feels like -8 to -5 C.
In the spring Busan gets some of the yellow sand phenomenon sweeping in from northern China, but on Geoje the pacific systems usually win out, and, in fact, Busan can be protected from the yellowy dusty air when the battle between systems happens north of the city, like it did back in 2003.
The most obvious example of what is a year round battle, is seen when the typhoon season hits in mid-August. They come up and hit the southeastern corner of Korea before getting pushed toward Japan.
Earlier, during the rainy season of mid-June to mid-July, the Monsoons come up less from the east than southwest, disrupting the battle, by this dominant summer system which pushes the asian system up into north korea and the pacific system off coast.
Weather is fun to watch.

You'll notice that the asian system is stronger today with the pacific system turned eastward way down southeast of Taiwan. That'll change as spring nears. |

So the air quality in Busan is pretty good if the air flow comes in from miles and miles across the Pacific? |
