Aren't they?

They look like the old 1,000-won note that was in your trouser pocket and didn't know it, you tossed it in the washer & dryer, and it came out shrunken and all washed out. Colours are just hideous. I'm hating this one so much more than the 5,000- & 10,000-won notes. It actually makes them look great. Sad

They remind me of Canada's smallest paper currency:

Huh, I actually like the new 1,000 won notes. Of course I've always liked the color blue.

I like the new 1,000 more. I like the brightness and crispness of the note and have always like blue and white together.

The new(ish) 5,000 was also more colorful than it's predecesor, thus also gets my vote.

This brings me to the 10,000. I DO NOT like it. Large denomination currency notes should FEEL like money, they should be big and have that 'papery' feel. I think the new one is poorly designed graphically and just doesn't feel like big money should do, it is too 'plasticy'.

Anyone remember the old fifty pound notes in England? If you had a few of those in your hand you felt like a KING! As with the new Korean Won 10,000, the recent ones feel lack-lustre in comparison.

Just my 1,000 wons worth....

P.s - anyone know if they are thinking of bringing out higher denomination notes - a 20,000 or a 50,000...? I've always wondered why they haven't. Anyone know why....?

Cool

Yes, I had those 50 quid notes way back when (I think 1991???)...

Anyway, I would like some new money - may be I will go to the bank at the end of the week to get some...

Yes, but 50 pound notes are a bugger to get rid of once you have them Sad

I haven't seen one up close yet, but I've seen the pictures on Wikipedia. They are quite diffrent. My guess is eventually the old ones will disappear much like the old 5,000 won bills did right after they were released.

I'll go to the bank this afternoon and see if I can get one.

The ATM in front of my building is only giving out the new man wons.

Very colorful, but my wallet now feels over-sized.

I like the old one better. The new bills are too "Look at me!" - like an altogether decent looking chick who spoils her face by trying too hard with colored contacts and fancy make-up. The old ones seemed cooler and more understated which I liked just fine. Also, although I do like Joseon landscape-type scenes, I don't catch a particularly nice vibe from the painting on the back of the new thousand. I liked the 도산서원/오죽헌/경희루 theme on the old money.

Damn it, I didn't start this poll to have people disagree with me.

Brightness? I wonder if all this apparent brightness and crispness isn't just because they're newly printed.

It's still too small. Like a theatre ticket. A flimsy one, too.

YES. Feels like a cheap coupon some subway-entrance-clogging ajuma pressed on you and that you toss in the next trashbin you see. Plasticy and shiny. bleccchhh.

I just mean the contrasting colors of blue and white are a sharper contrast than the old mauve and white ones. It's also in part due to the new material they're printed on and the contrast between the two colors that makes them brighter rather than the fact they're new.

Whilst I like the understatedness of the old chun won, I just love blue and white together, so that overides my distaste at the texture and size of the new one.

As of late, my wallet has become a free-for-all. Some days, I've got an assortment of ten-thousand, five-thousand, and one-thousand won bills, both old- and new-style, popping out from the folds. Yeah, it's a cornucopia and all that.

Furthermore, my qualm with the new bills is that I feel as if I'm paying for things with Monopoly money. [insert joke about Oriental Avenue here]
