For vocals:
The AT3035. I bought that for 190$ at altomusic.com (BRILLIANT website that has GREAT prices and ships for reasonable cost.
For it's price, it is unmatched! DEFINATELY studio quality mic for under 200$.
It's got a huge diaphram. I have used it before for three vocalists (at once) and the harmony sounds were brilliant.
I haven't heard the thing in the studio, only having used it live but it's very responsive. I have not heard my voice through it but have heard a female vocalist; great! crisp, clear, great replication!

and ps...the low end cut works AWESOME for cutting out live feedback!
Would reccomend this mic to ANYONE getting started!!!
For instruments: (well, specifically, my acoustic guitar).

For my Takamine, this mic was, in two words "AWESOMELY PERFECT!". I find that my guitar has a bit of a strange tone on it's own (best described as a bit shallow high end.). This mic took the bass and mids exactly right and added depth to the high end.
SM81.
If I ever buy an instrument mic in the future, it shall be this thing. IT's absolutely perfect! And very reasonably priced at around 350-400$!!! |
