Received my F-2 Visa in September.

Quit my job in December.

Visited the Immigration office in Mokdong today to do what I thought I had to do - register my new place of employment.

However, I was told told by the immigration official that since I have the
F-2 Visa I am not required to register where I work with Immigration.

I was under the impression I had to register with Immigration.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Nope. Immi doesn't care where you work anymore (with a couple of very small exceptions - bars, hooker, etc.). The only people who care are the tax people and the MsOE.

If Immigration doesn't care, do I have to register with the Ministry of Education or tax office?

I'm not interested in doing privates. I'm talking strictly for a university job.

If those things are required, your employer will take care of it as he would a Korean employee. If you wish to teach privately (which you have indicated you didn't), then you need Dept. of Education permission (as would a Korean). You are treated exactly as would be a Korean employee otherwise, with the same requirements from tax office or other qualifications.

Remember that with each change of home address, you MUST inform immigration with the correct form within two weeks of moving. Otherwise you should expect a nice hefty fine.

in korea for good, quick question

i moved out of my old place in december (i'm on an e-2) i get a new visa at the end of this month with my new address on there. i didnt bother going to immi to change my adress as i thought i would just wait until i did my visa run to do it. do you think there is anyway they would know i moved house? they didnt mention anything when i applied for my visa, and i have the visa issuance number ready to go. just what you said about fines in your post above got me a little worried.
