It's aimed at protecting 3D workers, but all contract workers are protected.

I my case, the law has negatively affected my job security. My employer had me, and my coworkers, resign one year contracts instead of the usual 2 year ones. |

Am I reading that right? Will we now not be renewed after 2 years?
What does "open-ended" mean? Maybe it means nothing for us, unless we work PT 2 years. |

It's not clear, but I wouldn't let it passed many employers to make up reasons to not resign people (like bad teacher evaluations--as if the students are truthful on those) after two years if the new law means that you are a permanent employee, with all the benifits that it involves, after 2 years of continuous employement with the same company. I wonder if the law is retroactive. |

| That sounds like it's all about Koreans. So the DDD workers only got what they got because of a Korean law situation? |

| Regardless, what this tells me is that tons of long time residents of Korea are going to find themselves looking for a new job. |

| I heard that since we were titled "guest lecturer" the law did not apply to us. We were not normal workers. But, who really knows? |

Funny how a law that's meant to give job security has actually made so many jobs insecure.
Many universities and some of the big hogwon chains have had salary caps in place for quite some time in order to prevent people from having long-term careers and long-term raises. It will be interesting to see how this new law affects us in the end.
I suspect in the long-run this will help us. Korea is having a tough enough time filling the demand for native-speaking teachers as it is. This shouldn't affect the kiddie hogwons or public schools too much since most of them have been so good at making conditions intolerable for longer than 2 years anyway, but this may spur the schools that have preferred to have slower turnover to make their jobs into career positions.
We'll see. |

I fail to see the good in this. Less contract jobs awarded and fewer jobs for people. Now most regular employees can kiss the 5 day work week goal goodbye and look forward to longer hours.
Increased productivity maybe. |

| I smell a fish. Clearly, the ones who will profit most from this law will be temp agencies (as it creates a need for them that doesn't really exist) and large corporations (as it will make it increasingly difficult for temp workers to join the union). |
