I'm looking for a drug store in the Seoul area that carries generic Propecia (fenisteride). These are the prescription hair growth pills. (I'd like to keep what I've got.)

Merck's patent expired in June and when I was in Thailand the generic was available at one-third the cost...

Not that I need it, but I'm curious. Does it actually work?

There are different types of hair loss and therefore different treatments. What works for one person won't work for another if you have a different kind of loss. If you have concerns, see a dermatologist who specializes in hair loss for diagnosis and treatment.

Do tell, do tell...

I've had a slightly receeded hairline for about 8 years, but it never worsened. Recenlty it's bloody well retreated a bit further and feels thinner too...

Doesn't that stuff have a bad effect on the testes though...

What did you find it did for you? Dramatic improvements... How long did it take to work... Did you notice any side effects... ?

Any pharmacist in Seoul will have it. You need a prescription to get it. It is called propecia as well in Korea. It costs about 50,000 for 28 days.

Does it work?

The results would have to be pretty noticable with no side effects for me to pay that much for a month's supply...

A less expensive alternative would be Proscar. My doctor told me about it. You cut the pill into 4 or 5 pieces and take one piece a day. I've found it to be very helpful. I've never taken Propecia~ too expensive. Good luck!

From what I understand it works about 70% of the time. I have never tried it, but was thinking about it.

Proscar and Propecia are the same thing. Just different doses of finasteride. I think proscar is 5mg and propecia is 1mg, hence why he cuts up his tablets. That's basically how they discovered its hair loss prevention effects. People taking it for prostate cancer noticed the hair growth side effect.

I believe the pill works best with bald spots in back, actually filling them in. It doesn't have much effect on receding hairlines. It won't make your hairline proceed, although it can generally help you keep what you got up front.

Side effects can be a loss of sexual drive. Some testosterone related substance bonds to the hair foliciles and knocks them out. Propecia I think prevents the chemical's formation or something. And it might decrease the amount of hoo hoo spackle you shoot out. Long term risks are good as people on proscar are usually on it for several years without serious health risks. There's lots of data on people on proscar.

There's also some evidence that soy (a byproduct your body makes when soy is digested) also acts like finasteride. This is a partial explanation why you don't see a lot of male pattern baldness in Asians.

That's correct, but since the patent has expired, I'd rather pay 20,000 won or less for the generic equivalent!

Laughing Actually I'm blessed with a healthy head of hair. The pills effectively halted some minor hair loss that I doubt anyone noticed except me.
