Diary of the Dead is an independent horror film announced for an expected release in the first quarter of 2007.[1] It will be the fifth film[2] in director George A. Romero's Dead series. However, in "an attempt to re-establish a lucrative franchise,"[1] the film will, technically and philosophically, be a reboot, "a rejigging of the myth,"[1] says Romero. Even though the fourth film was studio-produced through Universal Studios, Diary of the Dead will be produced by Romero's and his producer friend Peter Grunwald's Romero-Grunwald Productions with Artfire Films.[3] The film began its four-week shoot in Toronto on October 19, 2006.[4]

Romero announced the film in August 2006 [3] after signing a deal to write and direct it. The plot involves a group of film school students who are filming a horror movie in the wilderness, and who are attacked by zombies. All will take place during the same night as Night of the Living Dead. It will give a new perspective on the whole phenomenon as the students learn about the zombies through first-hand experience as opposed to the people locked up in the farmhouse in Night of the Living Dead.[5]

I thought Dawn of the Dead's (2003) zombies were more intense and scarier than Romero's newer Land of the Dead. I thought the Day of the Dead was horrible and Land of the Dead was horrible too. Zombies that can shoot guns and function and have feelings? WTF? That is stupidest thing I have ever seen. A zombie should be a brain dead, meat-eating sub-human as seen in Night of the Living Dead or Dawn of the Dead (2003). I would see it in theatre if Romero had nothing to do with it.

My brother was pleased with the Dawn remake because he always thought zombies should be only as effective as the state of their corpse when they reanimated. So a pile of bones would pose no problem, but some recently deceased Olympic runner or hot dog-eating champion would be a cause for alarm.

What was the 4th zombie movie?

I remember day of the dead (1985), there was a scene where guy is being eaten by zombies and his head is being pulled away from his body. he screams, "choke on it!" and his voice gets higher as his vocal cords stretch. that's realism. Also holding onto the thin remnaints of their human life was an innersting idea, the zombie saluting the superior soldier zombie beaing eaten....

Yea, good points.

Night of the Living Dead - classic movie along with Frankenstein, Dracula, Terminator and Alien. This isn't right because it transcends the horror genre. Its a just a good film that has zombies in it. Its like "12 Angry Men" with zombies. Its subversive, it was complicated in ways I'm still appreciating.

Dawn... excellent cult film and also a very scary movie. A good film but less complicated. A must see.

Day of the Dead...stinker.

Land of the Dead...unremarkable general action film.

Dawn remake - very good.

Night remake - so-so.

I don't have a problem saying most of Romero's films are bad. I got a package of all of them and I was ready for a horror fest like no other but I was very disappointed. It was a waste of time. Genius is a transitory state.

Most zombie movies stink, I've watched a lot of them and I think I'm going to hell for watching those things while I could have been helping needy children.

I'll recommend a '70's film "Shock Waves" with Peter Cushing. Its well done and very scary.
