I live in Ansan, where there's supposedly a large migrant workforce centered primarily in and around factories. There's an interesting mix of nationalities, including Russians, Filipinos, Pakastanis, Nigerias, etc. What kind of work conditions do these people have? I mean, is it always as bad as they say it is, i.e., 'the 3 Ds'?
More importantly, I have met someone recently who has asked for my help in setting up their bank account. However, I don't know if this is a good idea since they don't have the requisite work visa. I've wondered if their funds could be seized by immig in the event of a factory raid. What do you guys think?

This part of your post contained all the relevant information. Unless you are a professional career criminal don't get involved in anything illegal. Nothing good will come of it. The last thing you need is for this person to get caught and give Immigration your name..or for your name to come up in a conversation with the bank. While I am no lawyer I am willing to bet that Korea has laws against "aiding and abetting"

As far as I know all you need to open a bank account is a passport.
Why don't you just point them in the direction of the nearest bank!

I know that it's easy enough to open a Korean bank account. However, my question was really about whether a Korean bank is a good place to keep money for an illegal if their factory were raided by immig....
